Betting on the Louisville Cardinals (odds)

Record: 13-5 Overall / 8-4 Conference

A win over the Duke Blue Devils this season isn’t as impactful as it usually had been in the past, but the Cardinals will still gladly take it anyway they can. Such was the case Last Saturday for Louisville, which scored an 80-73 win in Durham for the Cardinals’ second win in a row. Carlik Jones added to his case for the ACC Player of the Year award, as he scored 25 points and added six rebounds, four assists, and two steals in the win over Duke. Virginia Tech is very much familiar with Jones, who scored 17 points in the Cardinals’ 73-71 home win over the Hokies back on Jan. 6. Louisville did a great job defensively in that game, limiting the Hokies to only 42.6 percent shooting from the field and 30 percent (9-30) from deep. Louisville’s is the ACC’s best when it comes to taking away the opposing team’s outside shooting. The Cardinals are allowing ACC teams to shoot only 28.9 percent from long range. Rebounding is another strong suit of Louisville, which outrebounded Virginia Tech in the first meeting, 36-29.

Louisville, which is second  in the conference with 39.8 rebounds per game, is 4-3 against the spread in its last four outings away from home.

Betting on the Virginia Tech Hokies (odds)

Record: 15-5 Overall / 9-4 Conference

Virginia Tech recovered from a 69-53 home loss to the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets on Feb. 23 by absolutely dismantling the Wake Forest Demon Deacons last Saturday, 84-46. Needless to say, the Hokies covered the spread in that game as a 10.5-point favorite. It’s the first time that the Hokies have covered the spread in four games, so that must have felt nice for bettors who stuck to the team. Virginia Tech made it rain from the outside against Wake Forest, connecting on 13 of 24 3-point attempts. Although it’s been mentioned earlier how terrific Louisville’s defense is against the 3-ball, the Hokies should be able to stretch the floor at least early in the rematch against the Cardinals, who can’t afford to see Virginia Tech find its rhythm on offense. But it’s still Virginia Tech’s defense that will play a bigger role in Wednesday’s showdown against the Cardinals. Virginia Tech is allowing just 64.8 points per game this season. The Hokies are also No. 1 in the ACC in adjusted defensive efficiency with 98.6 points surrendered per contest. They let the Viriginia Cavaliers score just 0.88 points per possession in a home win back in January.

Virginia Tech is 4-1 against the spread in its last five home games.

Writer’s Prediction

Virginia Tech wins, 67-64.
