Betting on the Oklahoma State Cowboys (odds)
Record: 17-6 Overall / 10-6 Conference
Cade Cunningham and the Cowboys have made so much noise towards the end of the regular season in the Big 12. They are currently on a five-game win streak, which includes a win over the Texas Tech Red Raiders and back-to-back victories over the Oklahoma Sooners. The Cowboys have a date with the Baylor Bears this Thursday, but regardless of the outcome of that game, Oklahoma State is a team that deserves to be viewed with higher respect. It certainly has West Virginia’s reverence as the Cowboys took the Mountaineers to the edge in Oklahoma State’s 87-84 home loss back on Jan. 4. Cunningham gave West Virginia a taste of his NBA future by scoring 25 points to go with nine rebounds and three assists, while Isaac Likekele had 22 points on 9-of-14 shooting.
Oklahoma State, which has eight Quadrant 1 wins as of this writing, is 3-1 against the spread in its last four games as the road team against the Mountaineers, dating back to 2017.
Betting on the West Virginia Mountaineers (odds)
Record: 17-7 Overall / 10-5 Conference
West Virginia nearly took down the Bears last Tuesday, but could not sustain its form in overtime, allowing Baylor to escape from Morgantown with a 94-89 victory. However, that West Virginia managed to hang with the Bears just shows how potent Bob Huggins’ team is. As Baylor kept on knocking down treys, the Mountaineers went right back with aggressiveness on offense that resulted in a 28-of-32 line from the charity stripe. West Virginia is drawing 21.0 fouls per game, ninth-best in the nation. The Mountaineers fished 23 fouls from Oklahoma State in the January meeting and went 20 of 29 from the free throw line. That’s how the Mountaineers are compensating for their otherwise pedestrian efficiency on offense (49.2 EFG%).
The Mountaineers, who will play the TCU Horned Frogs first this Thursday, are 11th in the nation with 117.7 points per 100 possessions.
West Virginia is 2-0 against the spread in its last two games against Oklahoma State.
Writer’s Prediction
West Virginia wins, 79-71.
