Betting on the Los Angeles Lakers (odds)

Regular Season Record: 33-20

After the Lakers beat the Brooklyn Nets with a roster that didn’t have LeBron James and Anthony Davis last Saturday to the tune of a 126-101 score on the road, the defending NBA champions’ stock is on a rise again. The Lakers loved what they saw in that game from new acquisition Andre Drummond, who muscled his way through for 20 points and 11 rebounds, while Talen Horton-Tucker had 14 points and 11 assists. Drummond can find himself producing huge numbers again against the Hornets, who don’t have much to offer defensively down low. The Hornets have Cody Zeller and Bismack Biyombo, but neither are on the same level as Drummond. There’s also Dennis Schroder for the Lakers. The guard had 22 points and 7 assists in the Lakers’ 116-105 home win over Charlotte last March.

The Lakers are 7-0 against the spread in their last seven games against Charlotte.

Betting on the Charlotte Hornets (odds)

Regular Season Record: 27-24

The Hornets failed to extend their win streak to three games after losing to the Atlanta Hawks at home last Sunday, 105-101. But at least, the Hornets produced one of the craziest dunks of the season, care of the high-flying Miles Bridges. The former Michigan State Spartans star didn’t just yam in the face of Clint Capela but also finished with a team-high 23 points on 9-17 shooting. With LaMelo Ball and Gordon Hayward sidelined, Bridges is expected to get increased touches again when the Hornets take on the Lakers. Bridges scored just six points on 3-6 shooting in the first meeting with the Lakers, but he stepped it up late. Over the Hornets’ last three games, Bridges has put up 21.7 points on 60.5 percent shooting from the field. The Lakers not having James and Davis should be a very welcome plus for the Hornets, who are 4-1 against the spread in their last five home games

Writer’s Prediction

The Lakers win, 114-107.
