It was a great week for Canada last week, as the birthplace of modern ice hockey took home both men’s and women’s hockey gold. In honour of the country’s tremendous achievements, this week’s round-up will be a special Olympic hockey edition.

Canada over US, Part I
US hockey fans should’ve known it wasn’t their Olympics when the women’s hockey team lost in excruciating fashion to their Canadian rivals last Thursday. Marie-Philip Poulin–the same woman who scored twice in Canada’s 2-0 win over USA in the 2010 Winter Olympics’ gold medal game–won it for Canada in overtime. It could’ve ended long before that however, had the Americans not narrowly missed an empty netter with less than a minute left in regulation. Oh so close.
Loser Keeps Bieber

The US still had a chance to even the score in the men’s semi-final, and as if an Olympic gold/silver medal wasn’t high stakes enough, the Americans decided to raise them even further: this billboard, posted by a transportation company in Chicago, proposed the loser be stuck with a certain baby, baby, baby.
Canada over US, Part II
Buoyed by the prospect of finally ridding themselves of Bieber – or, you know, back-to-back Olympic gold – Canada thoroughly shut down the US attack, which meant that Jamie Benn’s goal was enough to send the Canucks back to the gold medal game.
Finland crushes US
Obviously distraught that they had failed to rid their country of the Biebs, the US came out flat in the bronze medal game on Saturday and were promptly demolished 5-0 by Finland. Two goals in 11 seconds effectively sealed the Americans’ fate.

Canadian Gold, Part II
Canada capped off their Olympic hockey conquest by easily disposing of Sweden 3-0 in the gold medal game. Sidney Crosby – who scored the gold medal-winning goal in 2010 – effectively put the game to bed with this breakaway goal.
Chandler Fail
Thankfully for the American men’s hockey team, they weren’t the only ones who had a bad week. In the NBA, the New York Knicks continued their season from hell, encapsulated by this dunk attempt by Tyson Chandler.
In case you were wondering: no, it didn’t count. Sadly, the Knicks can’t say the same about this entire season.
John Calipari Doesn’t Believe You
Thoughts, former Knicks coach John Calipari, on the Knicks’ season?
Yup, that’s about right, Coach Cal.
