FAVORITES
Dustin Johnson (+700)
Johnson will continue his search for his first win of the year 2021 this week at TPC Twin Cities. Although he swung and missed at another chance to secure a major win over the weekend at Royal St. George’s, Johnson still managed to finish with a T8. He is now 4 of 4 in his past four starts and has made the cut in six of his last seven. So far this season, Johnson is seventh on the PGA Tour in driving distance and second in scoring average. At the same time, he remains the top-ranked golfer in the world, having missed the cut just twice in 16 starts this season.
Patrick Reed (+1600)
Reed will return to American soil looking to rid the bitter taste of his subpar performance in The Open Championship, where he fired a 72 and 71 in the first and second round, respectively, and missed the cut for an early exit. Prior to that, though, he was having quite a roll, with four made cuts in a row, including a fifth-place finish in the Memorial Tournament presented by Nationwide. Reed played in 2019 3M Open at TPC Twin Cities and finished 23rd with a score of 13-under 271.
Louis Oosthuizen (+1400)
Oosthuizen will look to recover from a heart-wrenching last-round mild meltdown at The Open Championship. He was so near at winning the Claret Jug at Royal St. George, as he took a lead into the final round but he bogeyed twice in the front nine then another in the 13th hole to cede his lead and let Jordan Spieth and eventual champion Collin Morikawa along with Jon Rahm get past him when it was all said and done. Still, he’s been a picture of fantastic consistency of late. Oosthuizen has cracked the top 3 in four of his last six starts and the top 20 in all of the events in that stretch.
HIGH-VALUE SLEEPERS
Tony Finau (+1400)
Finau recovered from a couple of prior missed cuts by finishing with a decent T15 in The Open Championship. He faltered in the third round a bit with a 72 but had a 67 to close things out. Finau is also 2 of 2 in the 3M Open, finishing 23rd in 2019 and solo third in 2020, where he scored 16-under 268 to take home over $250,000 in winnings. He has seven top 10s in 22 starts this season.
Cameron Tringale (+2800)
Tringale has a sneaky good resume this season, so far. Although he’s got zero wins to date, he has a couple of top 3s and four top 10s along with nine top 25s in 24 starts. He’s been relatively more susceptible to missing cuts here and there, but the TPC Twin Cities doesn’t seem to be one where he’d get cut again. He is 2 of 2 there like Finau and was tied for third in the 2020 edition of the 3M Open.
LONG SHOTS
Ryan Blaum (odds)
Blaum isn’t having a blossoming season. He has missed the boat to the weekend in all of his last six starts and nine overall in 11 starts. He was cut in the 2020 3M Open. He was 74th overall in the 2019 3M Open.
Writer’s Prediction
Louis Oosthuizen wins the 2021 3M Open.
