The Cowboys didn’t take off in the best of ways this preseason, as they lost to the Pittsburgh Steelers in the Hall of Fame Game, 16-3. Obviously, the offense was a problem in that game. Dallas didn’t score a touchdown and went just 7/17 on third downs. However, the Cowboys had 347 total yards to just 250 by Pittsburgh. Garrett Gilbert was solid despite the lack of scores. He went 9/13 for 104 yards. It is Ben DiNucci, who needs to pick things up after going just 7/17 for 89 yards and an interception in the Steelers game. DiNucci, however, rushed for 34 yards on two carries. The Cowboys’ defense looked fine in the HOF game, notwithstanding the loss, especially against the run, as it held Pittsburgh to only 76 rushing yards and 2.5 yards per carry. Watch out for Dallas’ defense in the matchup against Arizona.
The under is 8-0 in the Cowboys’ last eight preseason games.
Betting on the Arizona Cardinals (-1.5)
Regular Season Record: 0-0
Arizona made some splashy moves in the offseason to bolster its offensive and defensive units. Not only did they acquire running back James Conner, but the Cardinals also added JJ Watt to their stop unit. Moreover, Arizona also signed veteran wide receiver AJ Green to a one-year deal. The Cardinals are a team that can make lots of noises — again — on offense. Last season, they averaged 25.6 points per game and were sixth in the NFL with 384.6 total yards per contest. They likely won’t play much of the aforementioned names in the Dallas preseason game, but knowing Kliff Kingsbury’s system, the Cards will come out flying on offense even if it is just Colt McCoy and Chris Streveler splitting duties under center.
The Cardinals are 4-3 against the spread in their last seven preseason games at home.
Writer’s Prediction
Arizona wins, 23-20.
