Betting on the Oregon Ducks (+14.5)

Record: 1-0 Overall / 0-0 Conference

The Ducks escaped Week 1 of the regular season with a 31-24 win over the Fresno State Bulldogs. It was not the lopsided victory most people expected Oregon to post, but a win is a win and the Ducks will just have to be better going forward. Anthony Brown passed for 172 yards and a touchdown on 15-of-24 completions. He also added 56 rushing yards and a touchdown on 16 carries. Overall, Oregon rushed for three touchdowns. The Ducks could use their prowess on the ground once again against Ohio State, which was gashed for 203 rushing yards and three touchdowns on 4.1 yards per carry by the Minnesota Golden Gophers last week. But Oregon’s defense needs to be sturdier because it’s not easy to keep up with the offensive firepower of Ohio State. Against Fresno State, Oregon forced three turnovers but allowed the Bulldogs to go 7-of-15 on third downs.

The under is 3-0 in Oregon’s last three games overall.

Betting on the Ohio State Buckeyes (-14.5)

Record: 1-0 Overall / 0-0 Conference

Ohio State edged the Golden Gophers last week in a 45-31 win. CJ Stroud, who inherited the starting gig vacated by Justin Fields, went 13 of 22 for 294 passing yards and four touchdowns with an interception. Stroud admitted that he dealt with butterflies in his stomach in that game, but you would not know it based on his overall performance. Stroud got help from the Buckeyes’ backfield that produced 201 rushing yards and a touchdown on 26 carries. That’s 7.7 yards per carry. Oregon did a pretty good job slowing Fresno State’s run game, but the Buckeyes’ ground attack is just a different animal. Miyan Williams and Master Teague III are terrific with the ball. Williams, in particular, had 125 rushing yards and a touchdown on just nine rushing attempts against Minnesota. Williams and Teague will look to capitalize on every opportunity they get while Chris Olave and company stretch the field for them. Olave had 117 receiving yards and two touchdowns on just four catches last week.

The over is 3-0 in Ohio State’s last three games overall.

Writer’s Prediction

Ohio State wins, 37-26.
