Betting on the Denver Broncos (-6)
Regular Season Record: 1-0
Teddy Bridgewater had the Broncos’ offense roaring from the get-go. With him under center in Week 1 against the New York Giants on the road, Denver’s attack was flying. Bridgewater went 28/36 for 264 passing yards and a couple of touchdowns without an interception. Running back Melvin Gordon also had success, as he finished with 101 rushing yards, most of which coming from his huge 70-yard rushing score. Even with the Broncos losing wide receiver Jerry Jeudy for weeks due to injury, the team is deep and talented enough downfield to wreak havoc again in Week 2 against the Jags’ defense that had just been embarrassed by a supposedly watered-down Houston Texans attack. Noah Fant, KJ Hamler, and Tim Patrick are all capable receivers for Bridgewater, whose mobility is another problem for Jacksonville. Denver’s defense could thrive anew as well against the Jags’ attack, who looked lost in more ways than one last week.
The Broncos are 8-3 against the spread in their last 11 games versus a team with a losing record.
Betting on the Jacksonville Jaguars (+6)
Regular Season Record: 0-1
Urban Meyer has so much to work on before the Jaguars become a force on the field. Trevor Lawrence passed for 332 yards and three touchdowns on 28/51 completions but he also had three interceptions in the Jags’ 37-21 road loss to the Texans. Jacksonville fell behind by a lot of points early in the game that it was only able to rush 16 times. This time, though, the Jags might run the ball more and capitalize on the talent of running back James Robinson, who only had 25 rushing yards on five carries in Week 1. Jacksonville also struggled with penalties in Week 1. The Jags got flagged 10 times for 82 yards. Discipline will be big factor for the Jags and the good news for them is that it’s something that can be easily addressed. Should the Jags have better control of the game, it can allow for Lawrence to play his game minus the pressure of having to catch up. Despite the condition he played in back in Week 1, Lawrence was still able to deliver some nice throws. He could be even better against the Giants.
The Jaguars are 5-2 against the spread in their last seven September games.
Writer’s Prediction
