Betting on the Oklahoma State Cowboys (+5.5)
Record: 5-0 Overall / 2-0 Conference
After a long rest, the Cowboys are going to see action again this coming weekend. The undefeated Oklahoma State last took the field on Oct. 2 when they defeated the then-No. 21 Baylor Bears at home, 24-14. Prior to that, the Cowboys beat then-No. 25 Kansas State Wildcats, also at home, 31-20, on Sep. 25. It’s Oklahoma State’s defense that has been doing most of the work for the team. The Cowboys are allowing just 19.2 points per game this season — 20th nationally. They are also surrendering only 297.5 total yards per game — 16th in the nation overall. Texas has a robust offense, but the Cowboys could spoil the Longhorns’ party in Austin with their pass rush that has collected 16 sacks already this season. That doesn’t sound good for the Longhorns’ pass protection, as the team’s offensive line has allowed the second-most sacks this year in the Big 12, thus far.
Oklahoma State is 4-2 against the spread in its last six games.
Betting on the Texas Longhorns (-5.5)
Record: 4-2 Overall / 2-1 Conference
The Longhorns will just have to move on from their gut-wrenching 55-48 home loss to the Oklahoma Sooners at home last Saturday. Texas was up big at the half, 38-20, but couldn’t stop Sooners quarterback Caleb Williams in the second half, leading into a painful loss in the latest edition of the Red River Rivalry. If they are looking for positives, though, Casey Thompson gave them one, with his performance in that game. Thompson passed for 388 yards and five touchdowns without an interception. The Longhorns just couldn’t defend consistently against Oklahoma. They forced two turnovers but failed to stop the momentum of the Sooners once Williams and company got going. Nevertheless. Texas can still build on those turnovers it forced and hope that Oklahoma State’s carelessness on offense can help the Longhorns. The Cowboys have a -0.2 turnover margin and an average of 6.5 penalties per game.
Texas is 3-0 against the spread in its last three games as the home team.
Writer’s Prediction
Texas wins, 33-28.
