Betting on the Minnesota Vikings (+3.5)
Regular Season Record: 5-5
Minnesota’s chances to make the playoffs will get a tremendous boost if the Vikings beat the 49ers this week, so expect Kirk Cousins and company to go all out. They must be feeling good heading to Santa Clara after scoring a 34-31 upset win at Lambeau Field over the Green Bay Packers in which Cousins put up arguably his best game of the season. Cousins passed for 341 yards and three touchdowns without an interception, while wide receiver Justin Jefferson exploded for 169 receiving yards and two touchdowns on eight catches. Cousins is having quite an underappreciated season, but the numbers don’t lie. This year, he has 17 passing touchdowns and just two interceptions. Cousins will be a handful for the Niners’ defense that also has to worry about running back Dalvin Cook, who will be looking to have his way against San Francisco’s 20th-ranked run defense.
The Vikings are 4-0 against the spread in their last four games on the road.
Betting on the San Francisco 49ers (-3.5)
Regular Season Record: 5-5
The 49ers are back to .500 after scoring consecutive wins over the Los Angeles Rams (31-10) in Week 19 at home and the Jacksonville Jaguars (30-10) on the road in Week 11. They are humming on both ends of the floor, as evidenced by the scores in their last two games. Containing the usually high-scoring Rams to only 10 points says a lot about San Francisco’s defense, especially against the pass, as Matthew Stafford and company were not able to take off. Meanwhile, San Francisco’s offense has been relying a lot on its rushing attack. Even wide receiver Deebo Samuel is having more work out of the backfield than in the downfield. Against the Jags, Samuel led the team with 79 rushing yards and a touchdown. San Francisco can win the possession battle against the Vikings by controlling the clock with its rushing attack that’s eighth in the NFL in rushing yards per game.
The under is 4-1 in the Vikings’ last five November games.
Writer’s Prediction
The Vikings win, 28-24.
