How about those Texans? Houston pulled off the biggest shocker in Week 16 of the NFL season when it defeated the Los Angeles Chargers at home as a massive underdog in a 41-29 victory. Davis Mills submitted a sparkling performance that saw him go 21/27 for 254 passing yards and two touchdowns with zero interceptions. Meanwhile, running back Rex Burkhead turned on the boosters and finished with 149 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 22 carries. The Texans have now won two games in a row, having also defeated the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 15. Going up against the Niners in Santa Clara is going will be a tough assignment for Houston, but with Mills starting to gain confidence, the Texans might just be the spoiler San Francisco won’t see coming on Sunday.

The 49ers suffered a 20-17 road loss to the Tennessee Titans, which hurt San Francisco’s chances to get a spot in the playoffs. But with the lowly Texans visiting the Niners, Jimmy Garropolo and company have a great opportunity to get back on track. Speaking of Garoppolo, the quarterback reportedly suffered UCL and finger injuries in the Titans game, though he has not been ruled out of Week 17, as of this writing. But if he can’t go, San Francisco will be forced to rely on rookie quarterback Trey Lance. Plus, the 49ers’ rushing attack should pose problems for Houston that is third-worst in the NFL against the run. More than that, the Texans have one of the poorest defenses in the league, as they are allowing 26.7 points and 380.9 total yards per game. Whether it’s Garoppolo or Lance starting on Sunday, the 49ers should be able to exploit Houston’s stop unit.
