Betting on the Kentucky Wildcats (odds)
Record: 16-4 Overall/6-2 Conference
Even without star guard TyTy Washington Jr., the Wildcats managed to pull off an 82-74 overtime win at home over the Mississippi State Bulldogs on Tuesday. That’s a great way for Kentucky to recover from a tough 80-71 road loss to the Auburn Tigers last Saturday. Just having Oscar Tshiebwe around is a big plus already for Kentucky, which got a monster double-double of 21 points and 22 rebounds from the 6-9 junior. Tshiebwe is averaging 16.1 points and 14.8 rebounds per game while also shooting over 60 percent from the field this season. As for the team, Kentucky is fourth in the nation in adjusted offensive efficiency and 25th in adjusted defensive efficiency. The Wildcats are also scoring 82.3 points per contest. Kellan Grady and Sahvir Wheeler will have expanded roles again if Washington (neck injury) sits out Saturday’s game.
Kentucky is 6-4 against the spread in its last 10 games overall.
Betting on the Kansas Jayhawks (odds)
Record: 17-2 Overall/6-1 Conference Conference
Ochai Agbaji saved the Jayhawks last Monday against the very game Texas Tech Red Raiders at home. Agbaji exploded for 37 points on 13/23 shooting from the field, while Christian Braun and David McCormack chipped in 15 and 13 points, respectively. Kansas is a team that can rack up points in a hurry. Kentucky’s got excellent scorers, but so are the Jayhawks, who are third this season in DivisionI with 121.9 points per 100 possessions. Agbaji is a clear offensive powerhouse, while the 6-10 McCormack could give Tshiebwe a run for his money. McCormack is no. 1 in the nation in offensive rebounding percentage. Kansas is also 11th nationally with a 35.4 offensive rebound rate. The Jayhawks have won all of their last five games.
Kansas, which averages 81.5 points per game, has seen the total hit the over in six of its last 10 games as the home team.
Writer’s Prediction
Kansas wins, 79-76.
