Betting on the Purdue Boilermakers (odds)
Record: 24-5 Overall/13-5 Conference
Purdue will be looking to recover right away from a 68-65 road loss to the Michigan State Spartans last Saturday in East Lansing. That loss ended the Boilermakers’ three-game win streak. Purdue shot 52.1 percent from the field but hit just one of nine attempts from deep against Michigan State. The dismal outside shooting in that game could just be an aberration for the Boilermakers, who are third in the nation in effective field goal percentage (58.2%) and second in 3-point shooting percentage (39.9%). When they lost to Wisconsin at home back in January, 74-69, the Boilermakers went 8/20 from behind the arc. Purdue also owns the most efficient offense in the nation at the moment, with 123.7 points per 100 possessions, according to KenPom.
The Under is 6-4 in Purdue’s last 10 games overall.
Betting on the Wisconsin Badgers (odds)
Record: 23-5 Overall/14-4 Conference
Wisconsin, on the other hand, has something great going. The Badgers stopped the giant-slaying Rutgers Scarlet Knights in a 66-61 road win last Saturday to extend their win streak to four games. During that span, Wisconsin has also defeated the likes of the Indiana Hoosiers (74-69) in Bloomington and the Michigan Wolverines (77-63) at home. Then they avoided getting upset by the Minnesota Golden Gophers in a 68-67 win in Madison before the Rutgers game. Johnny Davis is powering Wisconsin this season with his excellent play, He had 19 points and eight rebounds against Rutgers. He is averaging 20.6 points per game this season. Purdue should be wary of him, considering that Davis dropped 37 points in that aforementioned win against the Boilermakers. The Badgers, of course, can’t just let Davis do it all for them, so the likes of Brad Davidson and Tyler Wahl will have to step up this time around.
The Over is 7-3 in Wisconsin’s last 10 games as the home team.
Writer’s Prediction
Purdue wins, 77-73.
