Betting on the Dallas Stars (odds)

Regular Season Record: 46-30-6

For the first time in the series, the Stars have managed to outshoot Calgary, which they did in Game 5, 40-38. That’s not much, but Dallas will take whatever momentum and confidence from that to Game 7. It’s also fair to say that the pressure is mostly on Calgary, given how the Flames were the overwhelming favorites to win this matchup prior to the series. But here they are, headed to a Game 7 against a wild-card team. Goalie Oettinger was sensational in front of the net for the Stars in Game 6, as he stopped 36 of 38 shots from Calgary. So far in the playoffs, Oettinger has a 1.69 GAA to go with a .954 SV%. Oettinger’s brilliance has also allowed the Stars to rank third among all teams that made the playoffs with a 90.5 PK%. Dallas might have to play even more physically in Game 7. The Stars are just 12th in the playoffs with 32.33 hits/60, but laid out 38 hits in Game 6.

The Stars are 6-4 in their last 10 games overall.

Betting on the Calgary Flames (odds)

Regular Season Record: 50-21-11

Even though the Stars are bringing the fight to them, the Flames are still the better player – at least on paper. The Flames got outshot in Game 6, but they have consistently won the possession battle in this series. In fact, Calgary has a 5-on-5 58.76 CF% in the series to go with a 57.39 FF% and 53.85 GF% – both on 5-on-5. The Flames continue to have their way of getting prime scoring opportunities as underscored by the fact that they have been taking more high-danger shots (5-on-5), with a 57.01 HFCF% in the series, thus far. Johnny Gaudreau is leading Calgary in the postseason with six points (a goal and 5 assists) while Mikael Backlund and Elias Lindholm each have three goals. Then there’s their reliable goalie in Jacob Markstrom, who has allowed just nine goals on 164 shots faced in six starts against Dallas in the first round.

The Flames are 5-4-1 in their last 10 games overall.

Writer’s Prediction

The Flames win 5-2.
