Betting on the Chicago White Sox (-1.5)
Regular Season Record: 42-45
The White Sox will be sending Lucas Giolito to the mound for this series finale against Cleveland. Giolito has been among the disappointing players in the majors this season. He will enter Wednesday’s game with just a 5-5 record and an underwhelming 5.05 ERA along with a 1.44 WHIP. And just when it looked like he was gaining his old rhythm back when he allowed just 3 earned runs on 9 hits in 12 total innings over a two-start span, he fumbled again in his most recent start, surrendering 5 earned runs in 6.2 innings of a 7-5 home loss to the Detroit Tigers on July 8. But maybe the White Sox’s offense will have his back. The current roster of Chicago has a collective career batting average of .270 against Guardians starter Aaron Civale. Eloy Jimenez is 5-for-10 in his career against Civale while Yoan Moncada is 6-for-15 all-time.
The Under is Under is 5-0 in the White Sox’s last 5 Game 4s.
Betting on the Cleveland Guardians (+1.5)
Regular Season Record: 43-43
Civale will be making his third start of the month and looking for his first July victory. In his last start, he collected a no-decision, even though he allowed just an earned run on 6 hits with six strikeouts in 7.0 innings of a 4-3 road loss to the Kansas City Royals on July 8. The 27-year-old Civale has surrendered no more than 3 earned runs in four of his last five starts. As for their offense, Amed Rosario will look to lead the Guardians’ cast of hitters. He is 4-for-12 with a triple in his career vs. Giolito. There’s also Jose Ramirez who is 8-for-28 in his career against the White Sox pitcher with a couple of doubles and a homer. The Guardians don’t have the best offense out there, as they are just 19th in the majors in both wOBA and WRC+ but they are better than the White Sox in those two departments.
The Over is 3-0-1 in the Guardians’ last 4 Wednesday games.
Writer’s Prediction
The Guardians win, 6-4.
