Betting on the Arkansas State Red Wolves (+44.5)
Record: 1-0 Overall / 0-0 Conference
Arkansas State took care of business last week, as the Red Wolves absolutely lit up on the Grambling State Tigers in a 58-3 victory. While the opposition was obviously extremely light for Arkansas State, it must still have given the Red Wolves momentum they could ride on into a tough battle against Ohio State. James Blackman threw for 210 yards and two touchdowns with zero interceptions on 16/21 completions, while wide receiver Champ Flemings recorded 122 receiving yards and a touchdown on just eight catches. The hope for Arkansas State is that the seemingly good chemistry of Blackman and Flemings will continue in Week 2. The Red Wolves are huge underdogs against Ohio State, but the Buckeyes might take their foot off the pedal just enough for an Arkansas State cover. Remember, the Buckeyes might not have star wideout Jaxon Smith-Njigba, who hurt his leg in Week 1. The Buckeyes might opt to sit him for this game.
Arkansas State is e 8-1 against the spread in its last nine non-conference games.
Betting on the Ohio State Buckeyes (-44.5)
Record: 1-0 Overall / 0-0 Conference
After a slow start, the Buckeyes found their groove against the no. 5 Notre Dame Fighting Irish and eked out a 21-10 victory to kick off their season. CJ Stroud passed for 223 yards and two touchdowns on 23/34 completions, but it was really Ohio State’s defense that came through for the team. The Buckeyes held Notre Dame down to just 4/13 on third downs and only 11 first downs. They collected three sacks and six tackles for loss. As mentioned earlier, the Buckeyes might not have Jaxon Smith-Njigba, which would be a downer for them, but it’s not in a game like this one against the Red Hawks where they will truly feel the impact of his absence. Arkansas State is in for a tough weekend.
The Over is 5-2 in Ohio State’s last seven games against a team with a winning record.
Writer’s Prediction
Ohio State wins, 53-13.
