Thursday Night Football Picks and Predictions
Pittsburgh Steelers vs. Baltimore Ravens (September 11, 8:25 PM ET)
[sc:NFL240banner ]The Pittsburgh Steelers and Baltimore Ravens have one of the most intense rivalries in the NFL, often battling each other for supremacy in AFC North. They are the only two teams hailing from AFC North to have won the Super Bowl.
Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco wants a strong start to his season after setting career lows last year (6.37 yards per attempt and 73.1 QB rating). He will have new weapons veteran receiver Steve Smith abd tight end Dennis Pitta. Meanwhile, Pittsburgh’s Ben Roethlisberger will direct the Steelers’ offense like he always has after compiling 4,261 yards and 28 TDs last season.
The Ravens have a commanding 7-3 lead in their last 10 games against the Steelers at M&T Bank Stadium.
Writer’s prediction: The Ravens build an early lead over the Steelers in AFC North.
New York Jets vs. New England Patriots (October 16, 8:25 PM ET)
Another rivalry to grace football fans on Thursday Night Football will come on October 16 as the Jets and Patriots go head-to-head in a game that could seem some extra curricular fireworks. Last year, the two sides were involved in a sideline brawl which led to the ejection of New York’s Nick Mangold and D’Brickashaw Ferguson.
This season, their rivalry will be even fiercer as Pats cornerback Darrelle Revis goes against his former team. Revis Island will give Jets QB Geno Smith headaches to further compound the Jets’ paltry passing offense (31st in the league last year with 183.3 yards per game).
The Pats have gone 5-1 in their last six games against the Jets.
Writer’s prediction: The Patriots dominate the Jets.
San Diego Chargers vs. Denver Broncos (October 23, 8:25 PM ET)
Last year, the Chargers upset the Broncos 27-20 in a Thursday Night Football game in Denver. Doing so again this year could prove more difficult, as the Chargers will be facing a revamped Broncos team that will be even harder to stop. Backed by a better defense and the same devastating offense led by QB Peyton Manning , the Broncos look close to unstoppable this season.
Writer’s prediction: The Broncos embarass the Chargers.
New Orleans Saints vs. Carolina Panthers (October 30, 8:25 PM ET)
The potential top-two contenders in the NFC South will meet each other for some Thursday Night Football action in Week 9. Drew Brees and the New Orleans Saints will be gunning to reclaim the division title this year from the defending champion Panthers.
With Cam Newton starting the season banged up, it seemed unlikely he will even make it to this game that the Panthers will so dearly need him for.
The Carolina Panthers are 4-1 in their last five home games.
Writer’s prediction: The New Orleans Saints spoil the Panthers’ plans for a home win.
Dallas Cowboys vs. Chicago Bears (December 4, 8:25 PM ET)
Two of the most explosive offenses go against each other for Thursday Night Football in Week 13. QB Tony Romo and the Cowboys were fifth in the league scoring 439 points across the regular season in 2013. Meanwhile, the Chicago Bears are coming into this season on the heels of a record-setting 2013, when they broke franchise marks in total yards (6,109), passing yards (4,450), passing touchdowns (32) and first downs (344).
The Chicago Bears have won their last three games against the Cowboys.
Writer’s Prediction: The Bears win a very tight game against the Cowboys.
