Kansas City Royals vs. Cleveland Indians (7:05 PM ET)
Line: Kansas City Royals (+103) at Cleveland Indians (-113); total: 7.5 – see all MLB lines
[sc:MLB240banner ]Jason Vargas (11-10, 3.59 ERA) hasn’t pitched well lately, surrendering five earned runs in each of his last two outings – both at home – while spending no more than six innings on the mound. His rough performances contributed to the total going over in those games. The total, though, has hit the under twice in his last two road starts. Vargas will alternate mound duties with Cleveland’s Trevor Bauer (5-8, 4.06 ERA), who is misfiring himself over his last few starts. He is 0-1 with an ERA of 4.06 in four starts thus far this month.
Writer’s prediction: Kansas City wins.
New York Mets vs. Washington Nationals (7:05 PM ET)
Line: New York Mets (+170) at Washington Nationals (-200); total: 7.0 – see all MLB lines
The Nationals aren’t done winning this season despite having secured the National League East title. They are 5-0 in their last five games, and 9-1 in their last 10 overall. Washington looks to inch close to bagging home field advantage in the NL when it starts Gio Gonzalez (9-10, 3.74 ERA) later in the second game of a three-game series with the Mets. New York, meanwhile will give the ball to Dillon Gee (7-8, 3.88 ERA), whose last four home starts have given the Mets a 3-1 record.
Writer’s prediction: Washington wins.

Seattle Mariners vs. Toronto Blue Jays (7:07 PM ET)
Line: Seattle Mariners (EVEN) at Toronto Blue Jays (-110); total: 8.5 – see all MLB lines
[sc:MLB240banner ]Even King Felix was no match to the power of the hard-hitting Blue Jays, who scored a boatload of runs last night to beat Felix Hernandez and the Mariners, 10-2.
Tasked to defuse the explosive offense of the Blue Jays is youngster Taijuan Walker (2-2, 3.00 ERA), who surrendered two earned runs in 5.2 innings of duty in the Mariners’ 10-5 win versus the Houston Astros last September 19th. As for the Blue Jays, the ball will be in the hands of Mark Buehrle (12-10, 3.53 ERA), who will face Seattle for the first time since his Chicago White Sox days. The White Sox then had an 8-2 record in the last 10 starts of Buehrle opposite Seattle.
Writer’s prediction: Toronto wins.
Milwaukee Brewers vs. Cincinnati Reds (7:10 PM ET)
Line: Milwaukee Brewers (-135) at Cincinnati Reds (+125); total: 7.5– see all MLB lines
The fading Brewers aims to get their groove back after losing back to back to Pittsburgh and Cincinnati, respectively. They’ll start Kyle Lohse (12-9, 3.71) ERA, who has allowed no more than three earned runs in any of his last 10 starts against Cincinnati. Lohse has a 4-2 record with a 2.61 ERA in 19 starts against Cincinnati since 2012.
The Reds, who are 4-0 in their last four games, will have Daniel Corcino (0-1, 4.40 ERA) on the mound. He allowed two earned runs on three hits, struck out six batters, and walked four in 5.2 innings of work in the Reds’ 3-1 loss to the Chicago Cubs on September 17.
Writer’s prediction: Milwaukee wins.
San Francisco Giants vs. Los Angeles Dodgers (10:00 PM ET)
Line: San Francisco Giants (+220) at Los Angeles Dodgers (-260); total: 6.0 – see all MLB lines
San Francisco isn’t going anywhere without facing for the last time this regular season Dodgers ace, Clayton Kershaw (20-3, 1.80 ERA). Los Angeles owns an impressive 9-1 record in the lefty’s last 10 starts. They’ll also be batting against Tim Hudson (9-12, 3.52 ERA), who has 0-3 record with a 5.85 ERA in four starts against Los Angeles since 2011. The Giants, however, have won their last two road games with Kershaw starting for their bitter rivals. In addition, they are 7-3 in their last 10 games at Dodger Stadium.
Writer’s prediction: Los Angeles wins.
