The PGA Tour’s season is rolling along nicely, and the latest installment of the CareerBuilder Challenge (formerly and more commonly known as the Bob Hope Classic and the Humana Challenge) set to tee off this coming Thursday will make for even more exciting action.
[sc:PGA15-250 ]While the likes of Patrick Reed and Matt Kuchar are being considered as the frontrunners for this event, we all know that the PGA is never short of surprising results, and we’ve taken into account three under-the-radar golfers that could very well leave Coachella Valley with the Bob Hope Trophy.

2016 CareerBuilder Challenge Sleeper Picks and Predictions
Jason Bohn
Not everybody has an idea who Jason Bohm is, but it’s about time that he gets recognized as one of the PGA’s rising stars.
[sc:Golf240banner ]Bohn’s previous campaign did not go as planned, as he failed to win a single tournament last season and only finished with three top 10 finishes. He’s not that successful at the CareerBuilder Challenge tournament either, finishing 30th twice and 33rd on another occasion in three of his last four outings at the La Quinta Country Club.
However, the Pennsylvania native seems to have turned things around right from the start of this relatively new season. Bohm has three top 10 finishes – already half of his total for all of the 2015 season – from just four events that he participated in.
He’s currently in 10th place in the FedEx Cup standings too, so you know that he’ll put out a great effort this week to maintain or even improve his rare opportunity of being considered as one of the season’s top golfers.
Charley Hoffman
Although Charley Hoffman’s last top 10 finish happened back in September where he finished third at the Deutsche Bank Championship, he has had a great amount of success here at the CareerBuilder Challenge over the past three instances.
Hoffman finished in the top 10 in each of his last three trips in La Quinta, even tying for second in last season’s installment for his career-best finish at this event. The 39-year-old veteran also saw his performance improve year-on-year at this tournament, from 10th in 2013 to ninth in 2014 and ultimately as the runner-up in 2015.
With nowhere else to go but up, Hoffman is a trendy pick worth keeping an eye on indeed. If his massive swing doesn’t skip a beat (he’s currently fifth in the PGA Tour with a 303.6 average driving distance), expect him to take home the Bob Hope Trophy and his first win since November of 2014.
Brendan Steele
It’s pretty hard to gauge right now where Brendan Steele’s season is headed. On one side, he’s a top-20 finisher from two of the four events this campaign, including a tie for third at the CIMB Classic back in November. On the other, he was cut from the second round of both of the two other tournaments this season.
But just like Hoffman before him, Steele had a solid showing here at the CareerBuilder Challenge last season as one of the five golfers that finished in second place. He also has nine top 15 finishes since last season’s installment of this tournament.
We’re not quite certain if the good side or the bad side of Steele will show up this week, but we’re certain that the born-and-bred Californian will make a splash one way or another playing on a course on his own home state.
