There’s a very good reason why the Carolina Panthers are favored in this year’s rendition of the Super Bowl. In fact, there are three very good reasons. Let’s dive into why the ‘Black and Blue’ are so heavily preferred, and why the Denver Broncos are getting snubbed.
When it comes down to it, it’s not really a shocker. In fact, you don’t even have to be a football fan to get it. As long as you know how to read or look at side-by-side quarterback photos, you could probably put two-and-two together. Many betting sites have Carolina listed as -5.5 point favorites. We at TopBet, have decided to take things up a notch though. That’s right, we’re giving the Panthers a pair of field goals (or a touchdown less the convert) on Denver with a -6 point spread.
If you’re not comfortable, you don’t have to act now. Do your homework first. Check out our Broncos-Panthers full Predictions, Odds, Picks and Betting Preview here.

Super Bowl 50 Betting Line Movement Update – Here’s why…
1. Ageists
We all know Peyton has a few years on Cam Newton. That’s coating it with a bit of a mild dressing though. By a few years, we mean thirteen (13 or XIII)! Meaning Peyton was already gearing up for high school, while Mrs. Newton’s water was breaking. So with that said, let’s take a look at the numbers to confirm.
Well for one, Cam Newton ran the ball for 636-yards this season. Peyton has run the ball for 667-yards in his 18-year career. Now, hang on, that’s not fair. Peyton is not a running quarterback. Very true. He is one of the very few to post a negative amount of rushing yards for the past three consecutive seasons though. This is definitely a sign of age kicking in.
Typically you don’t run further, the older you get. Some people do, but they’re definitely few and far between. None the less, Peyton is a passer. So let’s look at those numbers instead.
Granted, Manning did miss six games this past season, but he also threw almost two interceptions to every one touchdown (17 interceptions – 9 touchdowns). Newton, on the other hand, threw almost three times as many touchdowns as picks (10 interceptions, 35 touchdowns).
2. Convincing Wins
The Denver Broncos were lucky to hang on to their AFC conference clinch. The Kansas City Chiefs were breathing down their necks, but just couldn’t pull it off. None the less, through the playoffs, the Broncos have not looked unbeatable by any means. If they were facing a healthy Steelers squad, they would likely be watching Super Bowl 50 on TV. They narrowly edged Pittsburgh though, by a score of 23-16 in the Divisional Round.
They played very well against the New England Patriots in the AFC Championship game, but still won by the skin of their teeth. If not for a missed extra point, they again would likely be putting new batteries in the remote control. However, if it’s never an accident when a team makes it through the gauntlet and to the Super Bowl, so we’ll give credit where credit is due.
As for the Panthers though, the road has looked much smoother. They took on the red-hot Seahawks and beat them in the first half. Yes, the Seahawks did make a thrilling comeback and almost upset the hometown Cats. It was not to be though and Carolina advanced to the next round. They then faced a very difficult Arizona Cardinals team. A team, that many thought, could not only upset the NFC’s best, but could also win the Super Bowl. The Panthers made quick work of them cruising to an easy looking 49-15 win.
3. Fun
Really? You’re making your picks based on fun!? No. This is just a writer’s opinion.
None the less though, it’s hard not to like the dabbing Carolina Panthers. This team was thought to be down and out early on. Projected first-string receiver Kelvin Benjamin went down in training camp and hit the IR for the year this past summer. Right then and there, people thought Carolina would have to wait for their chance at any sort of success. Benjamin, was a prime player in 2014, so without him – they’re done. Not so fast.
The Panthers ripped off an league best 15-1 record. Their starting quarterback upset every single traditionalist in the game with his constant dancing. And the team carried it’s success over to the postseason. They then knocked off the smoking-hot Seahawks. They made Arizona look like a high school team and they’re now playing for the biggest trophy in all of sports. So yeah, the Panthers have more fun and it’s infectious.
