NHL Player Awards Odds Update

Calder Memorial Trophy (Rookie of the Year)

NHL Player Awards Odds Updated - February 18, 2016

Chicago Blackhawks rookie Artemi Panarin is in a league of his own. He leads all rookies in goals (22), assists (35) and points (57). While Detroit’s Dylan Larkin makes a case with his plus/minus of 23 leading all rookies, Panarin has all the tools he needs to excel. The Chicago forward skates with last season’s Stanley Cup champions.

Panarin also skates alongside Patrick Kane, a frontrunner for the Hart Memorial Trophy. Having a talent like Kane helping elevate Panarin’s game should help the rookie further separate himself from the rest of the pack.

Rocket Richard Trophy (Leading Goal Scorer)

NHL Player Awards Odds Updated - February 18, 2016

Alex Ovechkin is a monster. He can split defensemen like a hot knife through butter. He can also make fools of goalies when he gets a clear shot on goal. Ovi leads all players in the NHL with 35 goals this season. He’s due for more as he’s the No. 1 goal-scoring option on the Washington Capitals.

Ovechkin is a dominant scorer and all, but he has to fend off some of the Western Conference’s best players. Patrick Kane is just a step behind with 34 goals this season. Meanwhile, Tyler Seguin and Jamie Benn are just an arm’s reach away with 30 and 29 goals respectively. Can Ovi score a bucket-load of goals from here on out to separate himself from the rest of the field? It’s going to be an interesting race to keep your eyes on in the NHL.

Vezina Trophy (Best Goalie)

NHL Player Awards Odds Updated - February 18, 2016

Braden Holtby may not lead the league in GAA, save percentage or shutouts. But he’s one helluva goalie this season with the most wins in the league. Holtby has gone 35-6-3 with a 2.16 GAA and .926 save percentage. He has just two shutouts this season. But Holtby benefits aplenty from having the league’s best offense helping him secure wins. He has plenty of competition from other net minders who’re keeping their teams in playoff contention.

Detroit’s Petr Mrazek leads the league with a 2.02 GAA, while St. Louis’ Brian Elliott has a 2.03 GAA. Detroit and St. Louis both rank in the bottom half of the league when it comes to offense, but are both in playoff contention due to some solid goaltending. You can also make a case for Chicago’s Corey Crawford, who leads the league with seven shutouts.

There’s no runaway candidate for the Vezina Trophy. But Holtby should have some strong consideration due to his collection of wins.

James Norris Memorial Trophy (Best Defenseman)

NHL Player Awards Odds Updated - February 18, 2016

There’s almost no question about it. Erik Karlsson is the best defenseman out there. Playing for Ottawa, Karlsson leads all defensemen with 63 points and 52 assists this season. He’s the only defenseman who has over 1.00 points per game this season.

Ottawa’s offense flows through Karlsson. He’s not just there to help out on defense, making sure that he’s involved in every aspect of the game. He’s the best defenseman in the league right now, and others will have a darned difficult time catching up to him.

Hart Memorial Trophy (Most Valuable Player)

NHL Player Awards Odds Updated - February 18, 2016

Patrick Kane is the best player in the league. No questions asked. He does everything for the Blackhawks whether it’s on offense or defense. He leads the league with 83 points this season; the next best player when it comes to points has 64. Kane ranks second in goals (34) and assists (48). He also ranks third in the league in plus/minus (23).

It’s going to be very difficult to hang with Kane as the season approaches its end. He’s separated himself from the rest of the field. You can lock down the Hart Memorial Trophy to Chicago’s best forward.
