Betting on the West Virginia Mountaineers (21-7, 10-5 Big 12)
Thank you, Jaysean Paige. The senior guard scored a career-high 34 points on Monday night, to lead West Virginia to a 97-87 victory opposite Iowa State. That win was pretty crucial for the Mountaineers, as it allowed them to avoid their first three-game losing streak in two years. Now, they’ll look to build on this momentum and hopefully take care of business in their final three games of the season. The first one will be a road game against a familiar foe in the form of the Oklahoma State Cowboys. West Virginia is 5-5 SU and 4-6 ATS in its previous 10 games away from home.
Needless to say, all eyes will be on Paige, who is posting a team-best of 14.2 points, to replicate his performance against the Cyclones. The chances of him doing so is relatively high, as the Cowboys are giving up more than 70 points in their last three contests.
Besides him, the pair of Devin Williams and Daxter Miles Jr. should be able to make their presence felt as well. Both have been solid offensive threats this year with 13.3 and 9.8 points, respectively. Williams, in particular, will head into this bout having scored 10 or more points in his past eight games. And in that stretch, he’s averaging 13.9 points on 43.1 percent shooting.

Betting on the Oklahoma State Cowboys (12-16, 3-12 Big 12)
Another game, another loss. The Oklahoma State Cowboys struggled to rack up the points once again and were eventually defeated by Oklahoma on Wednesday night, 71-49.
Oklahoma State shot just 34 percent from the field overall, and its defense also couldn’t prevent the Sooners’ offense from clicking. Ryan Spangler, in particular, was hot all game long as he finished with a career-high of 26 points on 10-of-13 shooting. But what’s done is done and Oklahoma State ought to turn their attention towards their next game.
Speaking of which, it’ll be against another ranked-team in the form of the No. 14 West Virginia Mountaineers. The Cowboys are 2-3 SU and 2-2-1 ATS in their last five games at home.
For them to pull of the improbable upset, the Cowboys really need to get their offensive game going. That said, the onus is on Jeff Newberry, who’s been their most reliable weapon this season, to pour on the points from the get go.
Newberry has managed to produce solid numbers in the last three outings, averaging 18.0 points and 4.0 rebounds. He also put up 12 points on 4-of-10 shooting in a losing effort against West Virginia earlier this season.
Meanwhile, the pair of Leyton Hammonds and Tavarius Shine could also take some of the pressure off Newberry on offense. Both are averaging 19.0 points combined in their previous five games. They might be able find some more scoring opportunities against a West Virginia defense that has given up 76 or more points in its past three games.
Writer’s Prediction
West Virginia wins it, 79-61.
