Record: 8-0 Overall / 8-0 Conference
Alabama retains its status as the best team in the nation after taking down the Auburn Tigers in a 42-13 win in Tuscaloosa last Saturday. Quarterback Mac Jones added to his season’s totals with a sparkling performance that saw him pass for 302 yards and five touchdowns without an interception on 18-of-26 completions. Jones has been among the best QBs in the nation this season, but he’s also got the luxury of having a loaded receiving corps that still puts up incredible numbers despite losing Jaylen Waddle to a season-ending injury. For one, Alabama still has DeVonta Smith, who’s been unconscious of late. Smith has 518 receiving yards and eight touchdowns in his last three games. Jones and Smith are primed to make a killing in the passing attack against LSU’s pass defense that’s being gutted on a weekly basis. LSU is allowing 335.8 passing yards per game with opponents also completing 63.4 percent of their passes.
The over is 3-1 in Alabama’s last four road games.
Betting on the LSU Tigers (+28.5)
Record: 3-4 Overall / 3-4 Conference
It’s been a tough season for LSU, which clearly is not going to make a successful defense of the national title it won last season. In their most recent outing, the Tigers picked up a 20-7 road loss to the Texas A&M Aggies last Saturday. However, LSU was able to cover the spread as 15.5-point underdogs, the second time in a row that they won against the spread. Two weeks ago, they defeated the Arkansas Razorbacks away from home, 27-24, as 1.5-point favorites. Although LSU is not having a dominant season on offense unlike last season, the Tigers are at least doing a good job in terms of controlling the ball. LSU is second in the SEC in terms of time of possession, and it’ll be interesting to see if they can win that area against Alabama, which got out-controlled for 13 minutes by Auburn last Saturday.
LSU is 3-1 against the spread in its last four games overall.
Writer’s Prediction
Alabama wins, 47-20.
