Betting on Andy Murray (-5,000)
Andy Murray stormed into the second round of Wimbledon with a 6-2, 6-3, 6-4 win over unseeded Liam Broady on Tuesday. It was a splendid performance from the world no. 2 who needed just one hour and 42 minutes to see off his British compatriot.
Murray has been simply unstoppable on grass this season. With his victory against Broady, he extended his record on grass this year to a perfect 6-0. The second seed was clinical in his first-round win against Broady, hitting 31 winners, converting four of eight break-point chances and winning 88 percent of his first-serve points. Of course, it also helped matters that Broady committed a whopping 22 unforced errors in the match.Murray will look to continue his hot streak when he takes on Yen-Hsun Lu in the second round. He will fancy his chances of doing just that as he has fared extremely well against the Taiwanese in the past. Murray has won three of his last four meetings with Lu, with two of those victories coming on grass. Murray squared off with Lu at this same stage of the competition back in 2013 with the Briton winning in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3, 7-5.
Murray is 9-1 in his last 10 matches. He is pegged at +300 to win this year’s Wimbledon.
Betting on Yen-Hsun Lu (+2,000)
Yen-Hsun Lu booked a spot in the second round of Wimbledon with a comprehensive 6-4, 6-1, 6-4 victory over Alexander Kudryavtsev on Tuesday. It was a solid performance from Lu who needed just one hour and 32 minutes to oust the 30-year-old Russian.
Things are bound to get tougher, though, for Lu as he will next face the red-hot Andy Murray. The Briton is still unbeaten on grass this year with Murray grabbing his fifth Queen’s title just last week. Lu will take heart in the fact, however, that he has given Murray fits in their previous matches.
Lu defeated Murray 7-6 (5), 6-4, in their first-ever meeting at the Beijing Olympics back in 2008. It has been one-way traffic since then, though, with Murray winning their next three matches in straight sets. For Lu to record a major shock this coming Thursday, he will need to continue his excellent play on the service end. He won 83 percent of his first serve points against Kudryavtsev with Lu drilling nine aces in this first-round encounter.
Lu is 10-0 in his last 10 matches.
