Betting on the Arizona Diamondbacks (45-27)
Returning quickly to the winning column are the Diamondbacks, who took home another W after freshly ending their seven-game winning streak in the series-opener. They feasted all over the Rockies on Wednesday night, 16-5, and posted their 11th victory in 13 games.
The batting explosion featured two big stats, as the D-Backs tallied a whopping 10 runs in just the 4th inning and also fired away a season-high 20 hits for the game. Paul Goldschmidt, Brandon Drury, and David Peralta led the production, combining for 11 hits, nine RBIs, and seven runs.
It was Drury’s seventh game this year where he had three or more hits, while for Goldschmidt and Peralta, they continued a good a stretch. The two are each batting above .386 in the last two weeks, while also having seven dingers and 21 RBIs in that span.
Zack Godley (2-1, 2.34 ERA) is next in line for the starting pitcher duties. In his last three starts, which saw him throw for a total of 18.1 innings, he retired 18 batters and only allowed six runs.
Betting on the Colorado Rockies (47-27)
Welp, the Rockies simply had a disastrous Wednesday evening. The 16-5 thumping from the D-Backs halted their six-game winning streak, and they also allowed a season-worst 20 hits and 16 runs (second time this season).
Obviously, though, it shouldn’t be that big of a concern, especially since it’s just a really off night for the Rox. Also, it was at the batter-friendly park of Coors Field, so every once in a while, you would expect that they can get blasted like that.
Colorado is still sitting at the top of the National League West standings, and also own one of the most dangerous group of batters today. Charlie Blackmon and Mark Reynolds are in some cold spell as of late, but Nolan Arenado, Trevor Story, DJ LeMahieu, and Ramiel Tapa are collectively hitting an impressive .468 in the past week (44-for-94), with 20 runs and 22 RBIs.
Accompanying them on defense is Antonio Senzatela (9-2, 4.18 ERA). The rookie has six Ks in each of his last two starts, but has also given up 13 hits and nine runs in that stretch (10 innings).
The Rockies have won five of their eight meetings with the D-Backs this season.
Writer’s Prediction
The D-Backs (+101) are too hot right now. They are in a better position to win, 6-5.
