Betting on the Arizona Diamondbacks
The Diamondbacks will enter the game gunning for a third-straight win. They just came off another commanding series with the Colorado Rockies, where they captured two of the three games, including Sunday’s 4-3 victory courtesy of Ketel Marte’s walk-off RBI.
Tomorrow will begin the D-Backs’ third series with the Dodgers on the year. Though behind in the standings, they have fared well with this season on the head-to-head, as they have won four of the last five matchups, highlighted by the 13-5 and 11-5 domination last April 21st and 22nd, respectively.
Chris Owings and Jake Lamb are the team’s hottest batters in the past week, combining to go 17-for-50 (.340), with four homers, nine RBIs, and 12 runs. David Peralta, however, should get the same attention from the defense. Though only hitting .214 in the past week, he seems to be comfortable batting against the Dodgers, as he is 12-for-26 against them in six games this season
Accompanying those guys on defense is projected starter Patrick Corbin. His up-and-down season currently have him sporting a 6-7 win-loss card with a 4.76 ERA (16 games). He will look to bounce back from his ugly performance versus the Dodgers last April 15th, where he allowed five runs on nine hits and three walks over six innings.
Betting on the Los Angeles Dodgers
The Dodgers failed to sweep the MLB’s bottom-feeders San Diego Padres in their recently-concluded series, as they bowed to their California neighbors this past Sunday, 5-3.
There are no worries, though, obviously, with the defeat only being their fourth in 24 games. It’s just a minor bump in the road that should be fixed and made up for in no time.
This upcoming clash with the Diamondbacks, one of their fiercer foes in the division, easily holds more weight, especially since they only have won thrice in seven meetings.
With that, Clayton Kershaw’s (12-2 with a 2.32 ERA) return to the mound is just in time. The veteran ace pitcher is full of momentum and rhythm coming in, as he has powered the team to 11 straight wins (earning eight). He has eight or more strikeouts in five of his last six games (20 Ks in his last two), and has only allowed one run in his last 13 innings. In his start against the D-Backs last April 14th, he had eight Ks and gave up just one run on four hits and one walk.
As for the offense, it’s pretty much known that it’s quite high-powered for a while now. They have hard-hitters left and right – Corey Seager, Yasiel Puig, Cody Bellinger, etc. – and it has translated to an average of 12 hits, 2.5 homers, and 6.8 RBIs in their last four contests.
Writer’s Prediction
Kershaw showcases another fine performance, leading the Dodgers to a 6-3 win.
