Betting on the Arizona Diamondbacks (33-22)
Continuing to make up for their three-straight losses are the Diamondbacks. They have now won back-to-back, courtesy of shutting out the Pittsburgh Pirates on Tuesday, and then edging them out in a 14-inning marathon on Wednesday night, 6-5.
As always, Paul Goldschmidt, Chris Owings, and Jake Lamb came up big for the club, with the latter having the most all-around performance among the three – three hits, one run, two RBIs. Lamb is now batting at the .352 mark (27-for-76) since May 11th, and has helped immensely in making Arizona is rank inside the top 7 in hits, runs, homers, and RBIs.
The defense, on the other hand, will be headlined by Zach Greinke (6-3, 3.24 ERA). We should see the 13-year veteran focused on redeeming himself, as he will be coming off a start where his five-game winning streak got halted. The Marlins are only hitting .237 against him all-time (28-for-118).
Betting on the Miami Marlins (21-30)
This is a team that’s simply rolling on both sides of the field. The Marlins are now winners of four straight and seven of their last 10. Over their last four victories, they have pounded opponents by a combined score of 30-7.
It’s currently being highlighted by one man, though. Giancarlo Stanton, Dee Gordon, and the other guys are not lost in the offense, but it’s clear that Marcell Ozuna has been their best and weapon this season. The 26-year-old is pacing the team in hits, homers, and every stat in the slash line (.314/.383/.563). Additionally, in his last five outings, he’s batting .478, with three homers, five runs, and six RBIs.
For the team’s pitching duties, meanwhile, we’ll see the return of Jeff Locke. The sixth-year hurler just joined the Marlins this past off-season, and is hoping that he has fully recovered from shoulder tendinitis. He’s only 17-19 with a 4.90 ERA in his last two seasons, but had a 1.77 ERA with 22 strikeouts and only two walks across 20.1 innings during his four rehab starts.
