Betting on the Arizona State Sun Devils (12-2)
Arizona State logged their first loss of the season to rival Arizona a few days ago, and are now on a three-game conference road trip. The first game of that road excursion didn’t go so well either, as the No.4 ranked squad fell to Colorado (9-6) by a score of 90-81 in overtime.
The Buffaloes led deep into the fourth quarter but the Sun Devils came to life and outscored the Colorado 7-1 in the final minute+ of regulation, sending the game into O/T emphatically with a Mickey Mitchell (sophomore) dunk with just six seconds left in the game. But it was all Buffaloes in overtime as they outscored ASU by 16-7. And now, they are headed into Huntsman Center, an arena ASU has not claimed a victory in since the Utes joined the conference.
Has Arizona State’s day in the sun come to pass here in the 2017-18 college basketball season?
Betting on the Utah Runnin’ Utes (10-4)
Utah has certainly enjoyed ASU’s dismal week, having watched their up and coming opponent drop two games as they prepare to host them.
But just like the ASU, the Utes dropped one to the No.14 ranked Arizona Wildcats this week by a score of 82-94. Utah’s Sedrick Barefield dropped 23 points and the Runnin’ Utes managed to scrape their way back from a 17-point deficit, but the comeback still fell short as the Wildcats closed out the game with authority.
The positive takeaway from this game is that while Barefield led the team with 23 points, Utah had four players score in double digits. But the problem was the battle on the boards, as Arizona out-bounded Utah 46 to 23 on the night. Head Coach Larry Krystkowiak has the gang banging the boards in practice this Friday afternoon.
Writer’s Prediction
The sun has set on Arizona State as they head into a three-game losing streak and will remain winless in Utah’s Jon M. Huntsman Center. Pick: Utah Runnin’ Utes for the win, and will extend their home ATS record to 5-1.
