Betting on the Arizona Wildcats (14-4)
No. 14 Arizona arguably has the best inside-outside combo in the nation with DeAndre Ayton and Alonzo Trier. Both players have been unstoppable this season, and the smart money is on that the two will have a field day killing it on the floor against the Cardinal. The 7-1 forward Ayton is pacing the Wildcats in scoring and rebounding with 20.2 and 11.3 per game, respectively. Trier, on the other hand, is dropping 19.9 points per game on 51.9 percent shooting from the field. With those two leading the way, the Wildcats have become one of the highest-scoring team in the Pac-12 with average of 82.9 points per game. The Wildcats are also an insanely efficient scoring team, as evidenced by their 50.1 field goal shooting percentage. Just imagine what they would do against Stanford and its sticks-and-stones defense that gives up the third-most points in the conference.
Arizona is 7-0 SU and 6-1 ATS in the last seven games against the Cardinal.
Betting on the Stanford Cardinal (10-8)
Stanford has one player who poses a big threat for the Arizona Wildcats, in the form of junior forward Reid Travis. Travis is one of the top scorers in the conference with a 20.1 points per game average on a 52.5 field goal shooting percentage. Reid should be able to make life hard for Ayton, who is a great scorer, but not considered by many as a smart and effective defender. If Travis could put Ayton in early foul trouble, the Cardinal could throw off Arizona’s vaunted offense and take control of the game’s pace. It was not that long ago when Travis transformed into a walking nightmare for the USC Trojans, when he scored 29 points and grabbed 10 rebounds in a 77-76 win last week on Jan. 7.
Stanford is 5-1 SU and 5-1 ATS in its last six games as the home team overall.
Writer’s Prediction:
Arizona wins, 83-74.
