Betting on the Baltimore Orioles (5-0)
The Baltimore Orioles extended their winning streak to five games with a 5-3 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays on Sunday. Vance Worley was solid in his debut for the Orioles, allowing just three runs in 4.2 innings of action. The Orioles’ starting rotation was supposed to be the team’s weakest link, but the pitching staff is a collective 3-0 with a 2.28 ERA this season.Yovani Gallardo will look to preserve that unbeaten record when he makes the start for Baltimore later today. He was superb in his debut win over Minnesota on Wednesday, allowing just one run and two hits in five innings of action. The right-hander was one of the prized acquisitions for Baltimore this past offseason, signing a lucrative $22 million, two-year contract back in February.
Gallardo can’t do it all alone, though, and he needs the Orioles’ offense to pick up the scoring slack as well. Expected to lead the Orioles’ lineup today is Manny Machado. He went 4-of-4 against the Rays on Sunday with a two-run homer. He leads the Orioles in homers (3), RBIs (4), hits (9) and slugging percentage (.905) this season.
The Orioles are 1-4 in their last five road games against the Red Sox.

Betting on the Boston Red Sox (3-2)
Boston had its two-game winning streak snapped on Sunday with a gut-wrenching 3-0 loss to the Toronto Blue Jays at Rogers Centre. Knuckleballer Steven Wright had a solid outing in his season debut, allowing just two runs on five hits in 6.2 innings of action but was unfortunate not to get some run support from the Red Sox offense.
Boston’s lack of offensive support was a surprise considering the Red Sox are one of the hottest hitting teams in the majors right now. The Red Sox have scored at least six runs and nabbed at least 10 hits in each of their first four games of the season. They are seventh in the entire MLB in batting average with a .276 clip. They are also seventh in the majors in slugging percentage with a remarkable .464 average.
The Red Sox will look to return to the win column when they take on the Baltimore Orioles later today. Starting for Boston in the series opener is David Price. He dazzled in his Red Sox debut, striking out 10 over six innings in a 6-2 win against Cleveland. The left-hander is 6-1 with a 1.86 ERA in 11 career starts at Fenway Park.
The total has gone under in Boston’s last six home games.
Writer’s Prediction
