Betting on the Baltimore Orioles (16-10)
The Orioles are continuing to have an intense back-and-forth against the Red Sox despite warnings from the league. Unfortunately, though, they are again on the losing end on the game’s very battle, as they have now dropped back-to-back to Boston with Wednesday’s 4-2 defeat.
Kevin Gausman was thrown out in the second inning after he added another chapter to the wild pitching war, hitting Xander Bogaerts right on the hip.
The remaining innings were split by Richard Bleier and Ubaldo Jimenez, who combined to gave up three runs on six hits and four walks, while only striking out two.
In the three games on the current series, the Orioles’ batters have only gone 18-for-100 (.180). Manny Machado has two homers in those contests, but those are his only hits in 14 plate appearances. Mark Trumbo, Adam Jones, Chris Davis, and Jonathan Schoop, meanwhile, are collectively 4-for-14 in the last two losses.
The probable pitcher for tomorrow night will be Jimenez – the same guy who relief pitched yesterday. He has earned a 1-1 card in five starts this season, with a 6.58 ERA.
Betting on the Boston Red Sox (15-12)
The Red Sox nation, of course, have their own fair share of moments in the “retaliation-fest.” You have fans yelling racial slurs and pitchers (Chris Sale and Matt Barnes) throwing at Manny Machado’s thigh and face.
They are enjoying this more than the Orioles, too, because as mentioned, they’ve come out on top consecutively.
Drew Pomeranz (3-1, 4.00 ERA), though throwing it cleanly, helped punish the opposition Wednesday night, as he struck out seven and only allowed two runs and five hits in the 5.1 innings he was in.
On offense, however, they’ve been as mediocre as Baltimore. Outside hitting leaders Andrew Benintendi, Xander Bogaerts, and Mitch Moreland, who are 10-for-32 for seven runs, the entire Red Sox have only produced 12 hits in 59 at-bats in their last three.
10-year veteran Kyle Kendrick (81-81, 4.69) will be starting for Boston Thursday night. He’s replacing the struggling Steven Wright in the rotation, and this will be his first appearance in the majors since 2015.
Writer’s Prediction
The Red Sox make it three in a row, 6-4.
