Line: Boston Red Sox at New York Yankees – view all MLB lines
The New York Yankees stumbled to their second-consecutive defeat with a disappointing 10-4 loss to the Boston Red Sox on Tuesday. Michael Pineda struggled mightily for the Yankees, allowing seven runs, six of which came in a disastrous first inning. That’s the first time that the Red Sox scored six runs in the first inning at Yankee Stadium. With the loss, the Yankees are now 5.5 games behind the Toronto Blue Jays in the AL East race.
[sc:MLB240banner ]They will look to get their season back on track when they take on the Red Sox in the third game of their four-game set tonight. Starting for the Yankees this evening is Masahiro Tanaka (12-7, 3.38 ERA). He will make his first start since September 18, when he sustained a Grade 1 right hamstring strain trying to leg out a bunt against the New York Mets. He surrendered two runs on five hits in six innings of action in that game. The Yankees have won three of their last five games with Tanaka as their starter.
Boston, on the other hand, will counter with Wade Miley (11-11, 4.39 ERA). He gave up four runs on eight hits over 6.1 innings in a 4-2 loss to the Tampa Bay Rays on Thursday. Miley struck out three and walked one in this game. The Red Sox are 2-4 in Miley’s last six starts.
The Yankees are 5-5 in their last 10 home games against the Red Sox.
Writer’s Prediction
New York wins, 5-2.
Detroit Tigers vs. Texas Rangers (8:05 PM ET)
Line: Detroit Tigers (+170) at Texas Rangers (-200); total: 9.0 – view all MLB lines
The Texas Rangers finally snapped their three-game losing streak with a thrilling 7-6 win over the Detroit Tigers on Tuesday. Cole Hamels won his sixth-consecutive decision for the Rangers, who now hold a two-game lead atop the AL West standings. The Rangers will look to sustain the momentum from that huge victory when they lock horns again with the Tigers in their series finale later tonight.
Pitching for the Rangers this evening is Yovani Gallardo (12-11, 3.42 ERA). He didn’t factor into Friday’s decision, surrendering two runs on eight hits and two walks while striking out four over 4.2 innings in a 6-2 win over the Houston Astros. He’s now 0-2 with a 6.43 ERA in his last three outings. He was excellent, though, in his last start against Detroit, throwing six scoreless innings on August 22.
The Tigers, on the other hand, will have Matt Boyd (1-5, 6.91 ERA) on the mound tonight. He was solid in his last start, allowing just two earned runs on one hit in six innings of work in Detroit’s 6-4 win over Minnesota on Friday. Detroit is 3-0 in Boyd’s last three starts. He held the Rangers to three runs over six innings in their last meeting at Comerica Park on August 23.
The Tigers are 4-1 in their last five road games against the Rangers.
Writer’s Prediction
The Rangers win, 6-3. Create a betting account now and bet on the best games for tonight.
