Jake Arrieta steps on the mound later tonight, searching for his first win of the month. Arrieta is coming off an impressive start, allowing just an earned run across seven innings of duty, while striking out eight, albeit in a 2-1 loss to the Mets on July 19. Arrieta is 12-4 with a 2.60 ERA thus far his year. The White Sox, on the other hand, will send Miguel Gonzalez to the mound. Gonzalez is 1-2 with a 2.77 ERA in four starts this month. The Cubs are 8-2 in Arrieta’s last 10 road starts. The under is 3-1 in Gonzalez’s last four starts overall.
Writer’s Prediction
The Cubs (-210) win, 6-3.
New York Yankees vs. Houston Astros (8:10 PM ET)
Line: New York Yankees (+140) vs. Houston Astros (-155); total: 8.0 – view all MLB lines
The Yankees play their first road game of the second half later tonight, when they go up against the Astros in Houston. On the mound for the Bronx Bombers will be Michael Pineda, who is 4-9 with a 5.25 ERA this year. Pineda was a bad dude in his last start, however, pitching six scoreless innings while fanning eight hitters in a 5-0 win over Baltimore on July 20.
As for the Astros, they will counter with Dallas Keuchel. Keuchel has apparently righted his ship following a disastrous stretch. He is now 3-0 with a 2.84 ERA in his last five starts.
Writer’s Prediction
Houston (-155) wins, 4-3.
