A couple of newly-acquired starting pitchers are set to make their first starts for their new teams tonight in MLB. Jaime Garcia will make his second debut in as many starts as he leads the New York Yankees against the Cleveland Indians. And in the NL, Yu Darvish will make his Los Angeles Dodgers debut against Jacob deGrom and the struggling New York Mets.

New York Yankees vs. Cleveland Indians (7:10 PM ET)

The New York Yankees have now dropped four of their last five games as they fell 5-1 in the series opener against the Cleveland Indians. Sonny Gray lost his debut, but he wasn’t helped by a Yankees defense that committed three errors. Jaime Garcia will be hoping for better play from his defense when he makes his Yankees debut tonight. Garcia recorded a quality start in his first (and only) appearance for the Minnesota Twins in his most recent start. Garcia is now 3-0 with a 3.05 ERA in his last three starts.
Last night’s win snapped the Indians’ three-game skid, and will now look to get a winning streak started with tonight’s starter, Trevor Bauer. The 26-year-old had easily his best outing of the season during his last start. He gave up just one run in eight innings of work against the Los Angeles Angels for his second decision win in a row. Bauer has continued to pitch significantly better at home than on the road this season. He’s 6-3 with a 4.36 ERA in 11 starts at Progressive Field.
Writer’s Prediction: Garcia outduels Bauer to lead the Yankees (+138) to a road win in Cleveland.
Los Angeles Dodgers vs. New York Mets (7:10 PM ET)

The Los Angeles Dodgers are back to winning ways after taking last night’s game against the Atlanta Braves, 7-4. The Dodgers are now 10-1 in their last 11 games. Their terrific lineup might just be what Yu Darvish needs to finally get a win. The newly-acquired starting pitcher had just one decision win in his last 11 starts in Texas, and the Rangers went just 2-9 in those games. Darvish didn’t help himself much, though, as he put up an ugly 7.20 ERA for the month of July.
Darvish will be up against Mets ace Jacob deGrom, who had his impressive win streak snapped in his last start. deGrom took the loss against the Seattle Mariners despite giving up just two earned runs in six solid innings. Prior to that L, deGrom had gone a perfect 7-0 with a sparkling 1.61 ERA in his last seven starts. The Mets sure could use another impressive start from him, as they’re now just 2-6 in their last eight games.
Writer’s Prediction: The Dodgers (-128) pick Darvish up in his debut as they beat the Mets.
