MLB World Series News and Previews

St. Louis Cardinals vs Chicago Cubs (7:05 PM ET)

Line:  St. Louis Cardinals (+107) vs. Chicago Cubs (-117) – view all MLB lines

Carlos Martinez (11-10, 3.33 ERA) of the Cardinals and John Lackey (11-11, 4.65 ERA) of the Cubs will clash in this rivalry match. Each squad are currently on some groove, with St. Louis entering as winners in 11 of their last 14, and Chicago having won three in a row, tallying 39 combined runs in those victories.

Yadier Molina is currently the hottest batter between everyone in the two teams. He has aided the Cards’ win surge in the past week, courtesy of going 8-for-21 for two home runs and 10 RBIs in that span.

The Cubs have won in eight of the 12 meetings this season.

Writer’s Prediction

The Cubs (-117) should be able to get this one, 9-5.

Seattle Mariners vs. Houston Astros  (8:10 PM ET)

Line: Seattle Mariners (-110) vs. Houston Astros (-120) – total: 8.5 – view all MLB lines

The Mariners are blazing in the past few days (three-straight wins and 28 total runs), with Mitch Haniger’s 13-hit, two-homer, seven-RBI week powering the team. At 3.5 games back for a wildcard spot, however, they are definitely on a difficult climb. Erasmo Rodriguez, who’s 1-2 with a 3.40 ERA in eight games with Seattle this season, will be tomorrow’s starter on the mound.

The Astros an be labelled as underdogs on paper. Along with having lost five of their last seven games, their starter for tomorrow, Charlie Morton (11-7, 3.86 ERA), is usually unable to show up whenever matched up with the Mariners. The ninth-year pro is 0-2 with the Ms this season, and has allowed nine runs on 18 hits and four walks in the 17.2 innings he has thrown in (15 Ks).

Houston leads the season series, 11-5.

Writer’s Prediction

The Astros (-215) win, 6-5.
