Miami Marlins vs. Philadelphia Phillies (7:05 PM ET)

Line: Miami Marlins (EVEN) at Philadelphia Phillies (-110); total: 8.5 – view all MLB lines

Jerad Eickhoff (6-10, 3.76 ERA) has arguably been the Phillies’ best pitcher this season, and his recent outings can prove it. He’s 4-3 with a respectable 3.42 ERA in his previous nine starts. But if you exclude his horrible performance versus Colorado on July 9, his ERA significantly improves to 2.34 in that same stretch. Eickhoff, who is 1-1 with a 2.25 ERA in two career starts against the Marlins, should be in line for another solid start later tonight.

Speaking of the Marlins, they’re set to counter with Tom Koehler (6-8, 4.68 ERA). He’s on a slump lately, going 0-2 with a disappointing 7.88 ERA in his last four starts. That trend, sadly, is bound to continue, as the right-hander is only 4-5 with a 5.02 ERA on the road this season.

Writer’s Prediction

Philadelphia (-110) wins, 4-1.

San Diego Padres vs. St. Louis Cardinals (7:15 PM ET)

Line: San Diego Padres (+200) at St. Louis Cardinals (-240); total: 8.5 – view all MLB lines

The Padres look primed for a strong win tonight with Andrew Cashner (4-7, 5.05 ERA) heading to the mound. His current ERA this season is the opposite of promising, but the veteran’s most recent outing against San Francisco last week is a reason to be very optimistic. In that game, Cashner logged in six innings of one-run ball and recorded a season-high of nine K’s. That was undoubtedly his best performance of the year thus far.

Meanwhile, the Cardinals are expecting good results from Adam Wainwright (9-5, 4.15 ERA). He’s been flat-out phenomenal in his past three starts, the most impressive of which is a three-hit shutout versus the Marlins last Saturday. Wainwright is also 6-3 with a sizzling 1.99 ERA across 12 career games (nine starts) against San Diego.

Writer’s Prediction

Cards (-240) win it, 3-1.
