[sc:MLB240banner ]Short and terrible would accurately describe Ryan Vogelsong’s (9-10, 4.19 ERA) performance lately. He’s allowed seven earned runs and seven hits through eight innings to pick up consecutive losses in his last two contests. Prior to this though, Vogelsong was the complete opposite as he fired six scoreless innings to capture the impressive 2-0 triumph at St. Louis for his ninth win of the year. On the road this season, he carries a 6-7 record with a 4.89 ERA and 1.51 WHIP through 17 games (12 starts)
As for the Rockies, they’ll be handing the ball to Chris Rusin (4-7, 4.94 ERA), who’s still trying to move on from arguably his worst performance as a pro on August 22 versus the Mets. During that game, he was totally rocked for a career-high 11 earned runs on 12 hits in only two frames of work for the eventual 14-9 defeat. But tonight might just be the perfect opportunity for redemption, as Rusin boasts a 1.35 ERA and 1.20 WHIP across two career starts against San Francisco.
The Giants are 2-4 in Vogelsong’s past six road turns, while the Rockies are 4-3 in their previous seven at Coors Field.

San Francisco (-135) wins, 4-2.
Los Angeles Dodgers vs. San Diego Padres (10:10 PM ET)
Line: Los Angeles Dodgers (-138) vs. San Diego Padres (+128); total: 7.5– view all MLB lines
Mat Latos (4-9, 4.76 ERA), who was bumped from the Dodgers’ rotation for 16 days, pitched efficiently in his return against the Cubs Saturday night. He held Chicago to just two runs and registered 5 K’s through 4 2/3 innings to get the 5-2 win. Latos will try to build on this performance when he toes the rubber opposite the Padres. He carries a 2-5 record with a 3.29 ERA and 1.19 WHIP in over nine road starts this season.
The Padres, meanwhile, counter with their rookie Colin Rea (2-2, 5.95 ERA), who will make his fifth major league start later this evening. Rea is coming off a rough outing at Philadelphia on August 29, during which he surrendered four earned runs and six hits over five frames for the 4-3 defeat. Across three home starts thus far, he’s compiled a 2-1 record with a 5.59 ERA, a 1.43 WHIP and a .298 opponents’ batting average.
Los Angeles has lost seven of its last 10 games on the road. San Diego, on the other hand, has won six of its past nine games at Petco Park.
Writer’s Prediction
The Dodgers (-138) escape with a 5-4 win.
