Seattle Mariners vs. Los Angeles Angels (10:05 PM ET)
Line: Seattle Mariners (+102) at Los Angeles Angels (-112); total: 8.0 – view all MLB lines
Seattle’s fate heavily depends on the play of starting pitcher Hisashi Iwakuma (14-7, 3.84 ERA), who’s looking to punch in his third-straight victory. In that stretch, he’s posting an ERA of 1.37, accumulated 17 strikeouts and has allowed just a single walk. Iwakuma should be able to sustain his excellent form as he is 8-3 with a 2.86 ERA across 16 career games (15 starts) against the Angels.Speaking of the Angels, they are countering with arguably their best starter this season—Matt Shoemaker (6-13, 4.22 ERA). The word “best” wouldn’t be the right description of his form right now, however. He’s lost four of his previous five outings, which includes his most recent start versus Cleveland on Saturday. In that game Shoemaker surrendered a five runs on a career-high 12 hits.
Writer’s Prediction
Seattle (+102) wins it, 6-2.
New York Mets vs. San Francisco Giants (10:15 PM ET)
Line: New York Mets (+145) at San Francisco Giants (-160); total: 6.5 – view all MLB lines
New York is expecting another solid effort from its beloved starter in Jacob deGrom (7-5, 2.30 ERA). He’s been dominating since the All-Star break, going 2-1 with an ERA of 1.56 in six starts. The former NL Rookie of the Year should be able to keep his form up versus the Giants—a team which he’s never lost to. deGrom is 3-0 with a 0.86 ERA through three career starts in this matchup.
As for the hosts, they’re putting their trust on their ace in Madison Bumgarner (11-7, 2.11 ERA). He registered seven scoreless innings versus Baltimore in his last start. Bumgarner has also pitched magnificently in 13 starts at home this season, holding a win-loss mark of 6-3 with a 1.47 ERA, a 0.83 WHIP and a .174 opponents’ batting average.
Writer’s Prediction
The Giants (+145) win it, 3-1.
