Line: Cincinnati Reds (+195) at New York Yankees (-225); total: 9.0 – view all MLB lines
The New York Yankees extended their winning streak to two games with a thrilling 4-2 victory over the Cincinnati Reds on Tuesday. Jordan Montgomery pitched 6.2 innings of one-run ball to notch his seventh victory of the season. The Bronx Bombers will look to keep the momentum going when they lock horns with the Reds in the final game of their two-game set today.
Starting for New York this afternoon is Luis Severino (6-4, 3.21 ERA). The hard-throwing righty was superb in his last start against the Seattle Mariners, scattering eight hits in seven scoreless innings. The Yankees have now won each of their last three games with Severino on the mound. The Reds, on the other hand, will have Homer Bailey (2-4, 8.56 ERA) as their starter today. The 31-year-old limited the Marlins to two runs over six innings in Cincinnati’s 3-1 loss on Friday. Bailey is 2-1 with a 6.28 ERA in three road starts this season.

New York (-225) wins, 7-2.
Chicago Cubs vs. Chicago White Sox (8:00 PM ET)
Line: Chicago Cubs (-225) vs. Chicago White Sox (+195); total: 9.5 – view all MLB lines
The White Sox’s losing woes show no sign of abating as they suffered a 7-2 defeat to the Chicago Cubs on Tuesday. It was another disappointing setback for the White Sox who have now lost 10 of their last 11 games. With the loss, the White Sox dropped to 39-58 in the AL Central standings. They are now a whopping 13 games behind the division-leading Cleveland Indians.
Pitching has been the main problem for Chicago of late, with the White Sox allowing a whopping 62 runs over their last 11 games. The onus then is on James Shields (2-2, 5.79 ERA) to deliver a solid start for the White Sox tonight. The 35-year-old veteran struggled mightily in his last outing against the Kansas City Royals, surrendering six runs on 10 hits and three walks in just 4.1 innings of action.
The North Siders on the other hand, will counter with Jake Arrieta (9-7, 4.11 ERA). In two starts since the All-Star break, the right-hander is 1-0 with a 2.13 ERA while holding opponents to just a .191 batting average against. In his last outing against St. Louis, Arrieta surrendered two runs on five hits over six innings. He will look to sustain the momentum for the Cubs who have won nine of their last 11 games since the Midsummer Classic.
Writer’s Prediction
The Cubs (-225) ease past the White Sox, 6-1.
