1. Indiana Pacers
Next Games: vs CHA, vs DET
The Pacers are proud owners of the best record in the NBA at 19-3 SU, and much of their success has been predicated on their immaculate home form; Indiana is 10-0 SU inside the Fieldhouse this season. [sc:NBA240banner ]
Not even LeBron James the Miami Heat can put a dent in the Pacers’ perfect home record, as they fell to them 90-84 earlier this week. The resurgent Bobcats and Pistons will get the next two cracks at breaking their streak this week, but looking at the the way Indy’s playing, that seems highly unlikely.
2. Portland Trailblazers
Next Games: vs HOU, at PHI, at DET, at CLE, at MIN
The Blazers – currently atop the Western Conference standings at 18-4 SU – have proven to be more than a flash-in-the-pan as their road record can attest. Portland is 9-2 SU and ATS this season away from Rip City.
They’ll have a road-heavy schedule this week, with an East coast trip to Philadelphia, Detroit and Cleveland. All are currently below .500. The Blazers had a similar four-game Eastern trip earlier this season; they went 4-0 SU and ATS.
3. Charlotte Bobcats
Next Games: vs ORL, at IND, vs LAL, vs SAC
Suddenly, the Charlotte Bobcats are not looking like such a laughing stock. The ‘Cats are 5-0 ATS in their last five games and are currently one of only a few East teams hovering around .500.
First-year coach Steve Clifford has transformed Charlotte into one of the best defensive units in the league; they’re 2nd in the NBA at 92.4 points/game. But the offense (90.8 points, 29th in the NBA) is still a work in progress. That combination has yielded the under to go 8-2 in their last 10 games.
4. San Antonio Spurs
Next Games: at MIL, vs MIN, at UTA, at LAC
[sc:NBA240banner ]After a scintillating 13-1 SU start, the Spurs have experienced a bit of a wobble recently, going just 3-3 SU in their last six games. However, San Antonio has maintained another trend: the total has gone over in each of their last five games and 9-1 in their last 10.
The Spurs play the Bucks, Timberwolves, Jazz and the Clippers this week, none of whom are especially renowned for their defense.
5. Houston Rockets
Next Games: at POR, at GSW, at SAC
Want points? Watch a Houston Rockets game. With the Rockets 1st in points for (107.5) and 22nd in points allowed (101.2), the average total in their games is a whopping 208.7 — the most in the NBA.
The total is especially likely to go over when the Rockets are away from home; the over is 7-2 when Houston is the road team.
The Rockets have road games this week against the Blazers, Warriors and Kings, with the former two having excellent offenses and pedestrian defenses.
