Betting on the Houston Texans (+5.0)

Regular Season Record: 1-12-1

The Texans lost to Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs via overtime in Week 15, 30-24. Houston was expected by not a few people to win against the Chiefs, but for the Texans to push that game into overtime and lose by just a touchdown at least gave Davis Mills and company a moral victory. Mills is far from an elite quarterback but he can sometimes shine like one. He had 121 passing yards and two touchdowns on 12/24 completions with zero interceptions against the Chiefs. The Texans also lost to the Chiefs in part because they did not have a rookie stud running back Dameon Pierce, who’s now on injured reserve. Houston’s defense, meanwhile, can make things happen. It had three sacks and forced the Titans to commit two turnovers in a 17-10 loss at home back in Week 8.

The Texans are 4-1 against the spread in their last five games versus teams from the AFC South division.

Betting on the Tennessee Titans (-5.0)

Regular Season Record: 7-7

The cure to the Titans’ malaise could be another meeting with the lowly Texans. Tennessee has lost all its last four games. In their most recent outing, the Titans lost a heartbreaker to the Los Angeles Chargers on the road, 17-14. Running back Derrick Henry could come up with another huge performance against the Texans, who got torched for 219 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 32 carries in the first meeting. Tennessee also did not have Ryan Tannehill in the previous showdown against the Texans, when they rolled with rookie Malik Willis. Tannehill is healthy now and should offer a much more stable option under center.

The Titans are 6-1 against the spread in their last seven games opposite a team with a losing record.

Bet on the Tennessee Titans

Writer’s Prediction

The Titans win, 30-17.
