The Jaguars won in an actual football game for the third week in a row, and bigger yet is their inclusion in this week’s power rankings. The Dolphins have been perennial losers by small margins, but don’t discount them against the spread.
[sc:BettingArticlesShortcoder ]Here are the top 5 NFL teams to bet on this week:
*All odds and trends as of December 11, 2013.
Team | Trend |
---|---|
Philadelphia Eagles | 4-0 SU/ATS in last 4 road games |
Kansas City Chiefs | 4-0 ATS in last 4 as road favorites |
Jacksonville Jaguars | 3-0 SU/ATS in last 3 games |
Miami Dolphins | 3-0 ATS in last 3 as home underdogs |
Dallas Cowboys | 4-1 ATS in last 5 after loss |
1. Philadelphia Eagles (-5)
Next Game: @ New Orleans Saints (December 15, 1:00 PM ET)
Don’t look now, but the Eagles with their quick paced offense grabbed first place in the NFC East after winning five straight games. [sc:NFL240banner ]
They beat Detroit last week, where it became apparent that it would take more than eight inches of snow to stop LeSean McCoy from wreaking havoc on the field. The win capped a three-week home stand.
For next week, they’ll be back on the road, where Philadelphia isn’t too shabby, either. They are 4-0 SU and ATS in their last four away from home.
2. Kansas City Chiefs (-4.5)
Next Game: @ Oakland Raiders (December 15, 4:05 PM ET)
After losing three straight games, the Chiefs headed to Washington and bludgeoned a hapless Redskins squad, 45-10. Kansas City easily swallowed the miniscule 3.5-point spread as road faves in that game.
They figure to be the road favorites again when Andy Reid and his boys hit Oakland in Week 15. Note that the Chiefs are 4-0 ATS in their last four trips away from Arrowhead Stadium as chalks.
3. Jacksonville Jaguars (+2)
Next Game: vs. Buffalo Bills (December 15, 1:00 PM ET)
What do the Jaguars have in common with the Broncos? Before you think we’re just testing your mental stability, allow us to remind you that Jacksonville has won all of their past three games. But Denver is actually 2-1 SU in their last three, so that can’t be the answer…
The answer is: both teams are 4-1 ATS in their last five games. To be more specific, the Jaguars are 3-0 SU and ATS in their last three games. They’ll host the Bills in Week 15. “Jacksonville” and “winning streak” in the same sentence used to be an appalling thought, but the Jaguars are making it happen.
4. Miami Dolphins (+2.5)
Next Game: vs. New England Patriots (December 15, 1:00 PM ET)
Don’t count the Dolphins out of the playoff picture just yet. Back-to-back wins have them in contention for the last AFC wild card ticket along with the defending champion Ravens, with both sharing a 7-6 SU record. Miami doesn’t look as bad as their record, though. [sc:NFL240banner ]
Of the Dolphins’ six losses, four were by a touchdown or less. Instead of a two-game streak, the Dolphins could have been enjoying their sixth straight win after defeating Pittsburgh last week. The Dolphins return home in Week 15 to face the Patriots sans star TE Rob Gronkowski. Miami is 3-0 ATS in their last three games as home underdogs.
5. Dallas Cowboys (TBA)
Next Game: vs. Green Bay Packers (December 15, 4:25 PM ET)
Jerry Jones can buy anything, but unfortunately, wins in December don’t have a price tag.
The Cowboys continued their holiday season woes, losing their third straight December game in Week 14, when they received a humiliating 45-28 defeat at the hands of Chicago. Fortunately for ATS bettors, that loss could be taken as a sign that it’s time to bet on Dallas against against the spread. The Cowboys are 4-1 ATS in their last five games.
