Betting on the Boston College Eagles (1-2, 0-1 ACC)
It hasn’t been a good start to the season for Boston College. After getting blown out 34-10 by Wake Forest at home, the Eagles were then trounced 49-20 by Notre Dame. They couldn’t even cover a 14-point spread, dropping them down to 0-3 ATS this season.
BC was hanging in there against ND for the first two quarters until the wheels fell off completely. They simply couldn’t stop Brandon Wimbush and the Fighting Irish rushing attack, which rattled off 515 rushing yards and seven touchdowns.
Turnovers have been a big issue for the Eagles early on this season. They’ve given the ball up seven times over the last two weeks, with quarterback Anthony Brown on record for five interceptions.
After putting up those types of performances at home, it’s hard to see them putting up much of a fight at Death Valley against an awesome Clemson defense.
Betting on the Clemson Tigers (3-0, 1-0 ACC)
Clemson had arguably the best performance of Week 3 as the Tigers tore Louisville to shreds, 47-21, on the road.
It wasn’t a stretch to say junior quarterback Kelly Bryant, who was making his first career road start, outplayed reigning Heisman Trophy winner Lamar Jackson. Bryant went 22-of-32 for 316 yards and a touchdown through the air and had two more scores on the ground.
Bryant has proven to be very useful with his legs. He’s already scored five rushing touchdowns through three games this season, and Clemson’s +600 odds of successfully defending their title look better and better with him under center.
Seeing as how Irish quarterback Brandon Wimbush simply demolished BC with his legs to the tune of 207 yards and four touchdowns, Bryant should fancy his chances of adding to his tally of rushing scores.
The real star of Clemson’s big win over Louisville, though, was the Tigers’ excellent defense. After limiting Auburn to just six points, they put the clamps on Jackson and the Cardinals offense.
After they kept arguably the most electrifying player in all of college football under wraps, there’s no logical reason to think the Tigers will have any trouble corralling a struggling BC offense.
Clemson is 4-0 in its last four home games against Boston College, with the Eagles failing to score more than 14 points in three of those four contests.
Writer’s Prediction
Clemson (-34.5) continues its dominance as the Tigers crush a hapless Boston College, 42-7.
