Betting on the Boston Red Sox (55-44)
The Red Sox’s up-and-down play during the second half of the season continued as they fell 7-3 to the Angels last night. The Sox have now gone just 5-5 through their first 10 games post-ASG.
Rick Porcello will look to pick the inconsistent Sox up after last night’s defeat. The reigning AL Cy Young has had a very disappointing season thus far, and he has just two wins in the last two months.
However, both of those wins have come during the 23rd of the month. He’s also started to turn his performances around despite back-to-back decision losses. He’s given up just one run in each of his last two starts, but still took the L as the Sox offense was shut out in both games.
Porcello has now recorded four quality starts in his last five outings, a streak which began last month in a win against the Angels.
Betting on the Los Angeles Angels (48-51)
Just like the Red Sox, the Angels have been similarly inconsistent post-ASG. They’ve alternated wins and losses in their last seven games, and haven’t won back-to-back games in close to a month.
Starting pitcher Parker Bridwell might be the man to deliver them that rare second-straight win tonight as he takes the mound for the Angels. The 25-year-old rookie has been a good luck charm for the Halos, as they’ve won five of the six games he’s started this season.
Bridwell has been especially effective in his first two starts in the month of July. He’s gone six innings or more in each of those starts, and owns an impressive 1.46 ERA. Bridwell also hasn’t given up more than two runs in four of his last five starts, a streak which includes a 4-2 win over the Red Sox at Fenway last month.
