Pitching Edge – New York Yankees (+108)

The first two meetings of this three-game set between the Red Sox and Yankees have both gone the former’s way. But now, the Pinstripers, who are priced at +1,800 to win the AL East crown, ought to feel optimistic about their chances in tonight’s series finale with Masahiro Tanaka (6-2, 3.23 ERA) toeing the rubber for them.

Tanaka has done a remarkable job in spearheading the Yankees’ rotation. He’ll try to continue doing so against Boston—a team that he’s quite familiar with already. The 27-year-old righty from Japan sports a 4-2 record along with a 4.79 ERA throughout eight career starts in that matchup.

Of course, you can’t leave David Price (9-6, 4.34 ERA) out of the picture here. He’s also set to start for the Red Sox tonight. The lefty ace registered eight shutout innings along with 10 strikeouts during his last time out versus Tampa Bay on July 10. Price, however, gave up six runs on seven hits in his last start at Yankee Stadium.

Batting Edge – Boston Red Sox (-118)

The Red Sox have the best offense in baseball right now. They lead the majors in runs per game (5.62), batting average (.291) and in runs batted in (5.36). Most of the credit for this onslaught at the plate goes to their three-headed monster in David Ortiz, Jackie Bradley Jr. and Xander Bogaerts.

The soon-to-retire Ortiz boasts team-highs of 22 homers, 72 RBIs and a .330 batting average. He also holds a career triple-slash line of .307/.394/.575 versus the Yankees.

Bradley Jr. and Bogaerts, meanwhile, are on fire, too. The two are batting .299 and .322, respectively, this season. The former, though, has actually been more lethal lately, going 12-of-39 (.307) with five RBIs, three doubles and one home run in his previous 10 games.

Writer’s Prediction: Boston (-118), which is pegged at +1,500 to win the World Series this season, completes the sweep.
