Betting on Brazil (-209)
After a 1-1 draw with Switzerland that disheartened plenty of The Green and Yellow’s fans, Brazil went int overdrive and beat Costa Rica (2-0) and Serbia (2-0) to show why they are one of the favorites to win it all in Russia. The Brazilians are peaking at just the right moment and with Philippe Coutinho and Neymar seemingly in rhythm, Brazil appear to be unstoppable as of the moment. Having both Coutinho and Neymar on top of their games almost assures Brazil that they won’t finish a game without at least a goal. Coutinho has two goals so far, while Neymar finally found his mark in the Costa Rica game with a strike in extra time. Against Serbia, it was the pair of defender Thiago Silva and midfielder Paulinho’s turn to supply the goals for Brazil. The Brazilians defeated Mexico 2-0 in the two team’s last meeting during a friendly match back in 2015.
Betting on Mexico (+566)
Mexico didn’t seem to have it at all in a 3-0 thumping at the hands of Sweden last Wednesday. The writings were on the wall for El Tri in a lackluster performance in the first half before Sweden turned on the heat and scored three times in the final half of the contest, leaving Mexico in a pile of smoldering rubbles. Fortunately for Mexico, that loss didn’t matter as they still made it to the knockout stage, but if they want to prolong their stay in Russia, they will have to recover their swagger right away. Up against a confident Brazil side, Mexico can’t afford to look lethargic at any point in the match, particularly on defense. They have shown that in the wins over Germany and South Korea, so the possibility of them putting Brazil on a leash should not be counted out. Chicharito, Hirving Lozano, and Carlos Vela each are responsible for Mexico’s three goals in the tournament and all of whom are always a threat to find the back of the net.
