Betting on the BYU Cougars (-7)

Record: 9-2 Overall / 0-0 Conference

The Cougars secured bowl eligibility for the 16th in the last 17 seasons with a 34-17 road win last Saturday against the Georgia Southern Eagles. Jaren Hall was solid under center for BYU, as the quarterback passed for 312 yards and two touchdowns with zero interceptions on 17/29 completions. Meanwhile, running back Tyler Allgeier put up a monster performance out of the backfield, coming up with 136 rushing yards and a touchdown on 25 carries. The Trojans don’t have an elite defense, as anyone can easily tell from the 60+ points USC allowed last Saturday to the UCLA Bruins. UCLA running back Zach Charbonnet even rushed for 167 yards and a touchdown on 28 carries. Allgeier’s and Halls’ eyes should light up on Saturday against that vulnerable USC defense.

BYU is 2-1 against the spread in its last three games overall.

Betting on the USC Trojans (+7)

Record: 4-6 Overall / 3-5 Conference

As mentioned earlier, the Trojans just got blasted in Week 12, losing to the UCLA Bruins at home, 62-33. Before that, the Trojans also lost to the Arizona State Sun Devils on the road, 31-16. Trojans quarterback Jaxson Dart passed for 325 yards and a touchdown, but had two interceptions and connected on just 27 of 47 passes. If anything, he was sacked just once despite plenty of passing plays. The Trojans have a solid pass protection, as they entered Week 12 11th in the nation with a 3.08% offensive sack rate. Meanwhile, the Cougars are not known for their pass rush, which began Week 12 ranked just 106th nationally with a 4.64% defensive sack rate. Expect Dart to find more success this time around, perhaps just enough to shock the Trojans.

The over is 2-1 in USC’s last three games.

Writer’s Prediction

BYU wins, 30-17.
