Carolina Panthers vs Detroit Lions Predictions, Picks, Odds, and Betting Preview – NFL Week 11 – November 18 2018

The 6-3 Carolina Panthers ran into a brick wall in the form of the Pittsburgh Steelers, so they’re now in search of a rebound, which they could find this weekend against the struggling 3-6 Detroit Lions.

The Panthers are +500 to win the NFC South. The Lions, on the other hand, are +4,000 to rule the NFC North.

Betting on the Carolina Panthers (6-3)

The Panthers got their teeth smashed in by the Pittsburgh Steelers in a 52-21 road loss last week. The Panthers were overpowered and looked helpless for the most part of the Steelers game, which was made even more disappointing by the fact that they entered the contests on the heels of a three-game win streak. Christian McCaffrey did most of the heavy lifting on offense for Carolina, as he scored both of the team’s only two touchdowns while leading Carolina in rushing yards (77) and in receiving yards (61). Carolina’s offense was largely crippled because its offensive line did not give quarterback Cam Newton enough space and buy him enough time to operate in the pocket, as he was sacked five times for a loss of 46 yards. Hopefully for the Panthers, that’s not going to be much of a problem at Ford Field. Carolina has the ninth lowest sack percentage (5.48%)  allowed in the NFL. Going back to McCaffrey, he could find himself like a kid in a toy store against the Lions’ poor run defense that allows 132.7 rushing yards per game.

The under is 2-1 in the Panthers’ last three road games.

Betting on the Detroit Lions (3-6)

Like the Panthers in Week 10, the Lions also had a difficult time moving the chains in their last game, a 34-22 road loss to the Chicago Bears. It wasn’t until garbage time that the Lions were able to breathe a little more on offense in the Bears game. Quarterback Matthew Stafford  went 25-of-42 for 274 passing yards and two touchdowns against two interceptions. He also hit the ground care of the Bears’ pass rush six times for a loss of 45 yards. Apart from their seemingly weak pass protection, the Lions are also concerned on the status of wide receiver Marvin Jones, who prematurely exited the Bears game with a knee injury. While he dodged a bullet by being cleared of any serious injuries, his status for Week 11 is currently up in the air. In case he won’t be able to to give it a go, wide receiver Kenny Golladay and pass-catching tailback Theo Riddick will experience an uptick in their usages opposite a Carolina defense that is 25th in the league with a 67.08 opponents’ completion percentage clip.

The Lions are 4-2 ATS in their last six home games.

Writer’s Prediction

Carolina wins, 28-24.
