The Carolina Panthers are having quite a preseason, as they have a chance to finish these exhibition games undefeated, but beating the Pittsburgh Steelers at Heinz Field is not an easy task. The Panthers are +300 to win the NFC South, while the Steelers are -220 to end up on top of the AFC North.

Betting on the Carolina Panthers (3-0)

The early reviews for Carolina’s offense under new offensive coordinator Norv Turner have been fantastic, as his system has allowed the Panthers to average 26.6 points through three games of the preseason. Cam Newton could be sitting out the preseason finale, but assuming Turner’s lessons has stuck to the team, quarterbacks Garret Gilbert, Taylor Heinicke, and Kyle Allen should fare well under center against the Steelers. The Panthers also did a good job containing the New England Patriots, with Tom Brady playing, in last week’s 25-14 win at home. If running back Christian McCaffrey plays this Thursday, that will be a tremendous boost for Carolina, as the second-year pro has been solid in the preseason. Against the Pats, he had 48 rushing yards on 12 carries and also had 16 receiving yards on two catches.

The Panthers are 6-3-1 ATS in their last 10 road games in the preseason.

Betting on the Pittsburgh Steelers (2-1 Preseason Record)

After getting blown out of the water in Week 2 of the preseason when the Packers handed them an embarrassing 51-34 loss, the Steelers, particularly their defense, wiped the cake off their faces and the bitter taste of that loss out of their mouth by defeating the Tennessee Titans last Saturday at home, 16-6. The Steelers’ got the job done up front, as they recorded six sacks, while the secondary did their part by picking off Tennessee quarterbacks twice. Rookie safety Terrell Edmunds showed why’s he’s worth a first-round pick by intercepting a Marcus Mariota pass and returning the ball for 30 yards. The Steelers are going to test that defense against the Panthers’ high-octane offense.

The under is 4-0 in their last four preseason games at home.

Writer’s Prediction

Carolina wins, 27-21.
