The end of the Russell Wilson era in Seattle also means the beginning of another chapter in the franchise’s history. At the moment, it appears that Geno Smith has the lead in the quarterback battle in Seattle, but the preseason can help Drew Lock change the narrative toward his favor. Smith has familiarity with Pete Carroll’s system, but Lock appears to have the upside. Still in the Seahawks’ backfield, Rashaad Penny could be getting tough competition from rookie running back Kenneth Walker, with both players climbing up a notch in the depth chart following the retirement of Chris Carson. These are some of the battles worth tuning out over at the side of the Seahawks, heading into the preseason. Last season, Seattle was a run-heavy team and that could still be the case this year, with such an underwhelming QB situation.
The Under is 7-3 in the Seahawks’ last 10 games in the preseason.
Betting on the Pittsburgh Steelers (-3)
Regular Season Record: 0-0
Like the Seahawks, the Steelers are also in Year 1 in their transition from a franchise quarterback, with Ben Roethlisberger deciding to finally hang up his cleats. Right now, Mitchell Trubisky is in the QB1 slot, but who will back him up mainly remains a question. That could be answered in the preseason, with Mason Rudolph and rookie Kenny Pickett battling each other. There’s also Chris Oladokun, another rookie QB taken by the Steelers in the seventh round of the 2022 NFL Draft. Perhaps even more exciting to see from the Steelers is rookie wide receiver George Pickens, who has reportedly been churning out highlights in the training camp. He will have an opportunity to show off his talents this Saturday at home against a Seattle defense that was second-worst in the NFL last season in containing opposing passing attacks.
The Over is 6-2-1 in the Steelers’ last nine Saturday games.
Writer’s Prediction
The Steelers win, 23-17.
